The Hum-Vee or Hummer, whatever they call them would be the ideal police vehicle. We need a free trade deal with the USA!!!!

good in theory (for you at least) but it'd be a dangerous job. The temptation to get some misbehaving biker-butt would indeed by strong if mounted on a rocketsled. Just how long would you last though if you averaged 1 high speed chase a day and you eventually end up chasing guys with no regard for their own safety?

i wonder though.. how often do the cops need faster bikes to get speeders/crims?

Well for one thing, they wouldn't say "fuck that slow shit, I could out run it anyday", like they might say to the ol ST1100s (I am just saying what the general feeling might be amongst the runners).

However when there is a R1 looking up your arse with a race pipe (you definetly need it to scare people), with the brightest red and blue LEDs shining and a loud as airhorn honking, I think most would forget about doing runners there and then.

Thought the idea of police bikes was for their handiness at getting through traffic!
I believe they do have a few sports bikes in various UK constabularies!

An old lightblue Holden ute with a canopy, I think circa 96. Spotted in Downtown. I got the number plate if anybody needs it.

A pajero 4WD spotted around Manukau.

A white mondeo in Quay Street.

and don't forget the notorious boyracer-bait lowered bronze subaru wrx that was quite popular during the Fast and Furious operation.

    All unmarked.

There were rumours of a Blackbird cruising the southern a couple of years back
I've been pulled up by a green L200 ute (airport)with canopy and an ancient looking VN crappadore that could have come straight from the backstreets of otara.....and my mate got pulled by a rough ass XF ute (white).

I got pulled over by a silver Rodeo ute. Surprised the hell out of me, actually gave me a hell of a fright with it blasted the siren from right behind me.

I got the feeling the guy was not a traffic cop as such - seemed like more of a support kinda guy. I had a busted taill light, which he said he mainly wanted to make me aware of. I got no ticket.

I saw the same ute a couple of weeks later at a breath testing stop.

There is also a couple of Supercharged Commies (2003 Model) and one of them is black. But most of those are down in the south island.... They also have new ford transit paddy wagons. The ST1100's are getting replaced (possibly with BMW's, about 25 of them) There is also a few Dihatsu Charades for the community cops LOL.....

hhmmm i think that is about all that they have including the ones already posted....

I was talking to a guy yesterday who was in Auckland central, when a beat up black Falcon came down the ramp, coat hanger aerial and all with a rough arse Maori couple inside, they were on the opposite side of the law than he thought! Dunno if they were undercover for traffic, but you just don't know who's out there.

You could chase around other bikes who do runners and fun all day long LEGALLY! .
I saw one of those in Takapuna on my hols. The Police use them over here as well, here that models called the ST1100 Pan-European here and our bike cops can really handle them. They have to do 2 years in cars before even applying for bikes and they get top-notch training, probably amongst the quickest and safest riders on the road.As for your R1 Devon and Cornwall police have an R1 "Pursuit Vehicle" in standard Police livery,it`s got the lights but no panniers.Elsewhere in the country there is talk of "Undercover" police traffic bikes,a few years ago they tried 600 Yamaha Diversions (XJ600)with a camera in one of the panniers and apparently more forces are thinking about something similar.

maybe it's the same one, but i saw an old, piece of shit , flacon ute with full canopy with air intake on roof on cambridge-hamilton road. Whats more the cop was a big guy, wearing only a singlet & jeans. You wouldn't spot him as being mufti until you've got a disco in your rearview.... That's not cool. Also add a gold coloured euro (maybe volvo or renault) mufti car that sifts round on the lower-desert road...

Are you sure? It's odd for the cops to use a Euro car. Too dear, no fleet discounts. How could you tell?

    Ford van around Tauranga.

I followed a silver Ford econovan (smb, low roof) the other day, blacked out windows, ladders on roof racks and two small lights in the corners or the rear windows. I really wasn't sure if it was a cop or not till I saw his shirt as we went different directions at the roundabout.

the one that ammuses me is when the camera cars park outside car yards (lincoln rd toyota for eg) and put price stickers on the windows and leave all the doors open so it looks like one of their specials.... Dodgey.

Toyota in Manukau had one of those but it was a ploy to slow the traffic past their yard. I stopped to have a closer look and saw that it was fake. Any one seen the silver camera van between Cambridge and Tirau or the one north of Maramarua with the camera mounted on the rear bumper. In the eastern Bay of Plenty watch out for a metalic dark green late model ford also a red one. The family went hungry one week when I was forced to donated $265 to a revenue gathering scheme.
