roadworks on Clevedon- KK Bay road

The Clevedon - Kawakawa bay loop is a real mess at the moment. The twisties after kk-bay are full gravel (big chip) from the bottom to the top, Orere pt road has loose chip all the way along(but the surf was 4-6ft sideshore today!) The kaiaua side isn't too bad with no major slips through there after the rain but a bit of loose chip still. If You're fussy about your paintjob You may want to think twice before going through there for a month or so till it tidies up.

Shit yes i hit those last weekend, pity bout the recently resealed road because of all the marbles in the middle of the lane . And those major road works, anyone with a 180 width tyre will be doing no more than 25km/h. I was riding with my mate on a R65 and he zoomed through the gravel, i took my time, my dad on his Blackbird fell behind far and the Ducati MOnster dropped even further back than him. could be a month or more before that road is finished

it's probably not quite enough gravel for Your liking Motu but the actual twisty section itself is good. really big chip tho (as big as plums, but not Your plums of course) 8-).

I learned to cope with big chip when I was on Waiheke - they use a local rotten rock,you can break it up with your hands,so new chip is the size of kumaras.It gave me a hard time till I learned how to cope,I actualy was able to ride harder on those roads than on Nth Island roads after a while - because the rock breaks up it doesn't form into wheel tracks,not as much traction like you get in the hard pack wheel track,but a more consistant layer over the road.

sounds like similar stuff, I think they're using it as a base, it's pretty loose under wheel and the smooth fat road tyre wasn't too confidence inspiring. looked a right dork too as the ute i passed half a mile back came roaring past in a 4 wheel drift.
then just as i thought i'd get him back the road turned to gravel again, lol.
something humbling about riding a sportsbike in gravel with all the power in the world and some peice of shit with quarter the power and worth a tenth the price comes flying past like your standing still, doh! oh and You KNOW they're loving it too the smug bastids. lol.

hehe, too true dave... of course, we get the laugh most of the time while they twiddle with their flashy radio while stuck in traffic!
