What baffles me is how anyone could pay several thou$$ for a bike at the other end of the country that they have never seen, yet alone ridden.

Has anyone bought a bike this way before?

Yep. Several. All good. Just allow a contingency for what you don't know in the pricing. And ask questions. And use your instinct for an honest man

Yep I bought my bike through trademe it was $1600, I am pleased with it. I had extensive phone conversations with the owners and they seemed like good people. Guess there is a risk you take when u buy like this and you buy knowing this risk.

Yep, no worries, flew to Auckland to pick the bike up and rode back to chch. But like as has been suggested get to know the owner and ask a lot of questions.

Have bought 2 bikes over the Net sight unseen but they were through Sarge:slap: .
Asked dozens of questions, got got ther right answers but also had back up from the shop too if shit turned to custard.
I wouldn't buy $18000 worth of bikes from a mere mortal over the net without seeing them first ...ever. Would be just asking for bollix
