Reevu helmet- trickest of the trick

For those with helmet fetishes like me I tried on the trickest helmet of them all today- with rear view mirror built into the helmet on the inside of your visor. So so cool. Good looking helmet as well by the way but I've no ideal how practical e.g. changing visors or cleaning inside or wind noise.
Still a great ideal to see what's directly behind you while Keeping your eyes straight ahead. No more shaking mirrors half filled with your elbows. Really works and surprisingly sharp rearview. Helmet captures image from a plate at the back of helmet, bends the image over the top of your head to a display immediately above your eyes -AND it does not block or distract your sight ahead. It would be great for racing so you would know who's about to pass you without having to turn your head a milimetre.
Wouldn't work too well with a pillion on unless it was a topless model but I just don't have that sort of luck with pillions.
Don't believe me, go to Reevu.com or pop into Sawyers.
To pricey for me at the mo but hopefully they will come down over time. Oh yeah if you're interested $899

Hope you don't have cooties MD, cos I'm going to try that out this week - toss up between that and an Arai Condor Schwantz replica.

Ooooo - sounds neat. I want to try one, but only if I can admire myself in the rear view thingy.

Shame the website doesn't have an example of the helmets rear view properties.

    Good find.

Gareth D - see reevu.com website for the 'how' I simplified it to 'bends the image' And under the mountain bike helmet section are photo views from the riders eyes- check them out (someone asked)
Gazzar- the one I tried was gun metal grey, a good match for your bike
Jim2- it's was a large size for big heads (and still my ego couldn't fill it) but if you want to try it on...
Biff- I forgot to mention it has a courtesy light and make up holder

MD - Where in wellington did you see the reevu? I'd love to see one in the flesh, saw it a couple of months ago on the net somewhere and thought it was an excellent idea.

EDIT - just read your post again... as you were.

Sounds like you'd literally have eyes in the back of your head, I'd love to try that!

Thinking about it, I'd say it would take some getting used to, and it could easily change your whole motorcycling experience if you used it regularly and came to rely on it. Hmmm, not sure that I'd welcome that change?

    Ah yup,
just been to have a look!
It's quite cool, the demo one is way too big for me though.
What i didn't think about was what happens at night. Is there a way to stop the glare from the car behind you?

overall, it is a cool idea but I would want to give one a good test before I purchased.

Damn good point. On a lot of cage rear view mirrors there's a flip-up lever. Arseholes sitting up your date with their lights on full can be bad enough in the side mirrors but you at least have the option of leaning forwards a tad to get the light out of your eyes. The helmet would need some kind of readily accessible way of redirecting the light to spare your eyes - preferably straight back at the arsehole in the cage...

Actually, that is a very cool idea. Can see racers loving it. Just wonder with a sports bike's head down, bum up seating posi and the tilt that puts the helmet on, if you'd be able to see ahead?
