So Who Did the Coro Loop Today? 4.12.05

Up early today, met Alan at Autobarn 7.00 for brekky and headed down SH2/25 to Thames, and round the Coro Loop clockwise. I hadn't done it on a bike before but know the road quite well. Very little traffic at that time, so it was great fun, even the roads between Matarangi and Whitianga, which I thought would be too open to be fun on a 250.

Am I mad, or do others turn around and do the twisties between Coromandel and Matarangi again?

Saw lots of bikes heading around anticlockwise... Thought I saw Yoshi and some others in the gorge just after Kopu at about 11.15am, but I only got a 0.5 second look!! . We got heavy rain on the way back between Kopu and Waitakaruru... not a bad place (least we enjoyed the Loop in the dry), then came back thru Kaiaua for Fish n Chips at 12.00pm.

Saw more bikes.... many friendly waves... including Affman in Kaiaua, who was following a Hayabusa! Saw a Green Ninja on the back of a Highway Towing truck heading back to Auckland - Hope the owner's OK.

Hope everyone else had as good a day as we did, and that the rain was kind to you too. Looking forward to doing it again next weekend!!

Awesome piece of road, the Coro. Was supposed to ride it Sat. with my Sis and her husband and about 9 others but wasn't well enough! Just emailed her to see how it went. George has an 1100 Virago and they don't ride it enough, but then isn't that so true of most of us? Love the 600 around there, went counterclockwise last time which was my first time! Gonna go clockwise next time!

Did the loop in the cage - went up to a mate's bach on sat and back on sun.

Saw heaps of bikes both days - so if you got mad waves from a silver legnum.... Actually had a dude on a red VFR point at my KB stickers and wave (as he passed) and a guy on a black CBR yelled something and gave a thumbs up just after Kopu bridge (as he passed)....the pair on the Virago and i think it was an Intruder??? We talked to a the gas station were nice fullas but not KB'ers (yet!)

Good day to be out and about !

We left Autobarn at 7.30, and I was home in Howick, (coming back the more fun way thru Kaiaua/Clevedon), at 1.30pm. We stopped for a few minutes every hour and for lunch at Kaiaua.

Pace.... riding naked 250s!!. Round trip from home was 480km. I think most group rides take longer as they stop a lot more, and the quick guys are stoipped for much longer waiting for us nanas!!
