And I believe you are missing MY point - you DON'T RING 111 FOR A BURGLARY!!! By all means report the burglary, but calling 111 in this instance is like calling 111 for the fire brigade for a scorch mark on your carpet!

No matter how many cops they have, they will never eradicate burglary as long as there are people willing to buy goods with a dodgy provenance.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

It sucks to have stuff stolen. Its PC gone mad! My daughtr's phone was nicked out of her bag during PE a few weeks back. She knew who stole it so I went down to the school to see if they would ask for it back. Didnt see any point in going to the cops as they wouldnt do anything anyway(they were all too busy with the double murder under the bridge). Well the next day I rang my girls phone and this woman answered it. I had quite a conversation with her & found out her name and address and that she'd bought the phone the night before. Decided to go to the cops and lodge a complaint....told them all the details and how good it would look for their statisics to have one solved theft. Only the address she gave me is in the heart of black power turf. Went back to the school and asked if they'd spoken to the girl but was told they cant just accuse anyone without proof. PC bullshit! Back in the day, if anything was stolen out of a bag, the whole school would have been lined up in the hall and searched while teachers went through lockers. The theif would then get the cane...six of the best!!
That's whats wrong with the society these days...bring back corpral punnishment I say!
So the thieving little bitch gets away with it and there's no conciquences.

    CP....make your own friggin eggs!

It is this philosophy that burglary (and such "property" crimes) are not actually crimes at all that is the fundamental cause of the present day lawlessness. Yes, it's easy to say that burglary is "only property" . Expecting the police to take notice of it is like "calling the fire brigade for a scorch mark on the carpet". But the police themselves claim that burglary is the "starting school" for serious criminals. Burgle a house ? Yeah bro, that's not really crime is it? And let's do some more - then one day there's someone home. Just an old lady though. And by now the bros see it as their RIGHT to help themselves to other peoples' property. Can't be anything wrong with it can there, cos even the police think it's OK, they don't bother with it. So if the old lady objects, she gets worked over - shouldn't stick her oar in right?

Burglars DO NOT just steal property. They steal independance, they steal dignity, they steal peace of mind. I know old folk who don't sleep at night. Ever. Because they're too scared to . They sit up all night listening for noises. Silly? Maybe. But when someone's stolen their property, and their security, once, they can't ever feel safe again. Others I know of have abandoned their homes and gone into care, not because they couldn't look after themselves, but just because burglars stole their self confidence .

Don't tell me burglary is just like a scorch mark on the carpet, and just report it and forget it. It's a cruel , greedy selfish CRIME. And CRIME is what policing is supposed to be about. The victim of a burglary HAS EVERY RIGHT TO EXPECT THE POLICE TO REGARD IT AS SUCH.

Using you logic then we shouldn't use 111 to report a muder either, unless the murderer is still at the scene.

Get real here. A crime (burglary) has been committed, and the quicker the police are on the job the more chance there is of getting uncomtaminated evidence to solve it.

Oh I forgot... Burglary isn't a crime anymore. But in that case do wish the police would give us a list of crimes that we are now allowed to commit.

is that really a serious assumption going on at large among the law society right now?

And, yes Ixion you are right. The missus felt really insecure right now and it just breaks my heart to see her that way. Break-ins really violated your safety-feel in a way that you'd think there is nowhere safe anymore. As I said, if you can't feel safe in your own home, where else would you feel safe at?

We now twitch at every wood squeak, open the bedroom to check on the lounge at every single knock sound, and sleeps at night with a hammer beside the bed. We now act like dogs. Is this the society that we want? Is this what New Zealand should be about?

I'd say NO. We always boast about being a lawful society, then we'd better start acting like one. Or should we take up justice onto our own hand because the state can't provide us with one?
Where is the 'to protect and to serve' (yes it is written on their cars) if they can't even make us feel safe?

I don't ask for much. Just a mere presence and asking questions would bring some peace of mind to the ones that have been violated, but they even failed to do that.

I'm not blaming the police front line, but rather saying this Government DOES have something wrong in their priorities. :spudwhat:

And the more we let them be, the worse it will get. Apathy would be a sin to our children when they can't even live without fear.
