Reregistering

Hey all.

I just bought myself a 1990 CBR250RR which is deregistered (no plates or anything).

I understand that u need to have proof of ownership to get it reregistered. The guy i bought it off gave me the rego papers from when he bought it. Is that enough for proof of purchase?

Have a look at this LTNZ Factsheet. You might want to take some sort of receipt of payment for the bike as well if you have one (to prove you are the current owner).

Take the vehicle to a TSD agent with proof that it has been previously registered in New Zealand and that you’re the person entitled to reregister the vehicle.

The proof of previous registration can be old registration papers or documentation that verifies the vehicle’s VIN or chassis number. For instance, registration plates and a warrant of fitness checksheet, or registration plates and insurance policy documents that show the VIN or chassis number

I did something similar a couple of years ago. He had no paperwork whatsoever, not even old rego papers.The VINZ station I went to only wanted a document showing I'd bought it (a piece of paper with details of seller, buyer, bike, price, date of sale and signed by seller and buyer) and made me fill in a simple statutory declaration (they had a standard form) which I had to get witnessed by a solicitor or JP. It was a piece of cake. Seeing you've got old rego papers it might be even more straightforward (unless they've changed the rules in last couple of years of course)

when I got the RG on the road, I had to go to the cop shop and get a letter from them to say "it was not of interest" to them. Shouldn't have any problems if you have the old rego papers.

I'm currently doing this with my ZX-10.

I went to LTNZ (actually a testing station) and got 2 forms.

First one was the aforementioned police form and the second was a brake test form.
I went to the cop shop after putting on the chassis and old rego plate number. The cop took it from me and came back 5 minutes later with it signed saying it's "A OK"

Now the ZX is going to the bike shop on Sat morning to have the brake test done. This is where they measure and check the discs and calipers to see that they're okay and within the manufacturers tolerances.

On Monday I'm dropping it in to get the VIN done. You have to take those 2 forms also. Costs just over $100 for the test and WOF. Then there's the rego.
All up approx $350.
