Christmas again?

I was driving the cage tonight as the sun went down and I noticed the amount of homes and businesses that already have their trees and decorations up!? It straight away reminded me of last Christmas and seemed like it was only yesterday that I was blown away with the extremes people will go to to *dress up* their homes & property with such fantastic lighting displays...man this year has gone fast!!!!

Anyway, I thought it was a good tradition to wait until the 12th day before Christmas (today is the 15th) before putting the tree up, etc...isn't the silly season of Christmas already long enough??

And if there was anything to be said for 'night riding' it would be well worth it to journey down to Franklin Road, Ponsonby, even get off the bike and walk with the crowds, as most/all the homes along that street put a lot of work into their decorations and at night is is quite fantastic! I think they get rewarded by the council for doing it too, rates reduced for that period or summat?

Yeah, me-n-C.B. went out in the Mitral (not one of your soppy Jappa 4X4 things) tonight and looked at the trees/lights etc, the rain got worse, I had a Bubdaberg rum awaiting so home we went, apart from some 4th gear wheelspin it all went well, - then I found out that 24 degree heat did not help the taste of my Bundaberg & coke.

Jantar, the dams MUST be struggling to feed the power needed for Xmas, could you not add a few volts etc?? - like courier a few amps/volts down here???

The house with the best dressed house gets a year free power. From memory the same house tends to keep winning it. Will go and get a picture of it once I find out where it is.

Check out the lights in Lower Hutt too - they are up near Fairfield, towards the hills. Very magical to walk around and see the effort people have made for the public. Not into the singing and dancing Santas but the lights are amazing. Levin has some good ones too, but they are spread all over the place - much better when it's a whole street.

A few years ago they used to do a lucky draw for all those who entered their house in the lights competition - one year it was won by this lazy prick who had just strung a set of icicle lights along the front of his garage! Now they do it by public choice.

Went down franklin road last night, sure enough, all dressed up. LOL at the "Kiwi Xmas" one, sheep and tractors all over it . . .

Plus the one with the fake palm in the front yard, damn that cracked me up. Go check it out now, before the crowds take over.

The best way to take in the Christmas light extravaganza in Lower Hutt is by motorcycle. You can ride along the footpaths and avoid the gargantuan traffic jams. Maybe TRTNR could check this out in the next couple of weeks?

I reckon a better way to see the lights would be by mobility scooter with a grey wig as a disguise! No one would dare tell you to get a move on, and you could ride on the footpath without some wowser moaning!

I've done all my Christmas shopping - and all but one present (a book I'm copying recipes from!) is wrapped and posted or under the tree.

Just got to ice my Christmas cake (made months ago, as were the puddings), make some jams, shortbread and fudge as last minute presents, and make the pavlovas and salads the day before. I don't know why, but I've been really organised this year and it's been relatively stress-free!
