If not illegal, then it's often unwise. Defending themselves has cost people thier homes, livelyhoods etc.
And it all comes down to a lack of courage by the Police prosecutors who prefer to let the courts decide. Unless, of course, you're a Labour politician.

Dunno if there'd be a difficulty finding enough friends to be carried by six or if there'd be a war between all the people wanting to carry the coffin just to be sure I was finally dead.

Had an incident with a "tough guy" neighbour once over his dog coming onto my property and attacking the rabbit cage. He got aggro and yelled (audible to the whole street) "you'd better watch it or you'll be fucking sorry" in a threatening tone. Instead of being intimidated, I advanced and yelled, equally clearly, "Are you threatening me?"

He very clearly uttered "I don't threaten people" (I suspect for the benefit of all the rubber-neckers) and legged it back over the road.

It's so nice when the aggro bastards have sufficient intellect to know that if they persist in publically theratening someone they are likely to have the cops called and a complaint laid for threatening physical violence.
    Motorbike Camping for the win!
