For us Christchurch people Phil Garrett and Glenn Hayward were on TV (CTV - Pete Smith Hosts) tonight talking about what they (the FlyingKiwi team) have done and what they have got coming up.
One of things Phil was saying is that they are going to have another go at the record at a place north west of Adelaide in March but only rate themselves as a 75% chance of being there. They need money and lots of it, $150,000 to be precise but no NZ organisations are keen to help them out. What's with that? As Phil said they're not doing it for the money they only want to cover costs, bike modifications and to get all the team to Australia, etc. Surely 150K isn't too much for a few business or even the government - they seem to be able to come with millions for yacthing and rugby why not a world record attempt?
These guys have already proven they can do it, NZ has a long and proud motorcycle history this is just another chapter in that story that needs to continue.
I think the interview will be repeated at later in the week as well, I'll have to record it. Just need a way for you all to get access...
