Save the Race manoeuvers for the Race Track!!!!!

    HI GUYS.
I don't normally start threads or post much, but I am SO pissed off, that just have to on this one.

Ok, today, I started out with the coro loop ride. Poor Juzzer gets a flat, so after getting it fixed, we both decide to pull the pin on the ride and head back to AKL.

we passed a well known, very senior member of KB while riding back. He was doing under a 100k on the SH, and we passed him at little over 100km.

Juzz and I are riding along on a passing lane alongside each other - him in the right lane, me in the left....keeping a watchful eye on my mirrors for traffic stuck behind....and JUST AS WELL!!

the next second - WITH NO PRIOR WARNING!!! - the "senior" member of KB underpasses me, in a racetrack manouver to pull a less than impressive rossi-like attempt at the 65km corner where the SH2 joins back onto SH1 on the sthside of the bombays.... I'm going WTF????

not only did the "senior" member leave NO ROOM FOR ERROR on a state highway, but he took a liberty with my personal wellbeing - something i take a real issue with!! Had i moved a few inches to the left, both of us - and possibly Juzzer too, would've been history.

"senior" member, you know who you are, this is not a personal attack, but a call for you and others to leave the race manoevers to the race track....YOU KNOW BETTER!!!!

every time there's a KB ride, there's some issue - there have been recent posts about ettiquette when passing slower riders....is it going to take a death from this type of thoughtless, testosterone driven behaviour before some of you learn??!!!

I rode every weekend for 3 years with the same group of people....we NEVER ONCE had a bin...OR any close calls. WTF is it with the KB rides - there's at least one bin on each major ride, and multiple accounts of dangerous behaviour. I'm already extra picky about the rides i go on with KB, as I really love my bike, and value my life....and i want to get home in one piece.

I like the KB people I've met, they're all good people, without exception - the "senior" member i refer to in this rant included. This thread is no reflection on the ride organiser (who is a GREAT guy) nor the other KBers on the ride itself, the object of this rant is to try and make some of you (who pull dumb shit like this on the road) think, and take responsibility for your actions

    Rant over...

ugh, riding on the open roads is dangerous enough for me with out anyone else getting involved. I was quite pleased on my last ride with waylander and Road Rash that we each gave each other a good 20-30 meters.

Fair enough about the undertaking but why were you using both lanes when it clearly states use the left lane unless passing... i !@#$en hate that, bad enough cars let alone bikes ..everyone has a pet peeve me thinks...This sounds like the fairly narrow part that leads to the tight right hander where you start to climb the Bombay's,not a spot for shenanigans. cars were ahead, was planning to move right and pass - and was giving juzz room, as i don't like sitting up arse of other bikes.....

I stand corrected, excellent skill's then ..as for the other, who knows, perhaps it was a case of a last minute decision (right or wrong ) that was carried through.

Worthwhile rant Jo, sorry to read about this.

The thing with KB group rides is that there is always a different mix of riders, and I suppose that's where complications occur because you aren't familiar eachother's riding. In saying that, I've been riding regularly with different KB groups for about 2 years now and contrary to popular thought there IS NOT a bin or close call in each major ride!

Yea shame we got rained on, have to go again sometime when the weather is nicer and I' not sick.
This is just one more reason why I don't like big group rides with peaple at different skill levels. Me and Slash did the loop last sunday and neither one of us had any problems.
Riding with alot of riders exspeacially when a good group of them are racers just invites more risk than newer or slower riders should be exposed to. The racers will always want to go fast and the newer riders will want to keep up. On a road where anything can happen, as shown by the car nearly taking out Yoshi, there just isn't enough room for race track rising.

    Thanks for your comments TLDV8
...i wondered about the last minute decision thing too, as it seemed strange to be putting along at less than 100k on a SH. At first i thought he mighta been low on gas, (even tho there'd been a station 2-3kms back).

However, the full-on acceleration towards the only decent corner in 10kms of road, combined with the calculated knee down manouevers through the corner kind of made me realise it wasn't a last minute oops-related decision...which is why i was so hacked off.

if it was clearly a case of an "Oops" then i wouldn't have started the thread.... after all, we're all guilty of "oops" type mistakes/decisions.

I DO AGREE WITH YOU AND I ALSO LIKE TO GET ALONG QUICKER SOMETIMES
BUT THERE REALLY MUST BE A TIME AND PLACE AND IF YOU " DO " WANT TO GO LIKE A ROSSI DONT GO ON A RIDE THAT`S FOR SLOWER RIDER`S (IE TODAY`S RIDE SAW A LOT OF NEW FACE`S )BECAUSE SHIT WILL HAPPEN
SO IF YA INTO GETTIN YA KNEE`S DOWN AND USEING BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD A LOT OF US JUST ARNT INTERESTED:eyepoke:

Yes but most of us know each other's riding styles quite well by now as we have been on tons of rides together.

A lot of bins have been caused by some of the newbies to KB thinking this is some kind of underground racing club......
