Well I havent been part of KB long, but have met some awesome people, and the experienced riders care about us all. We've been on some great rides now thanks to KB with nothing but little niggle breakdown incidences. I like to let people know Im a bit of a nanna, especially as Im on a reasonably serious bike, making sure they dont assume Im an out there rider just because of what I ride. Why ride a big serious bike then some might ask? Well, who ever said it had to be ridden to its full potential, I enjoy my level of riding, I enjoy what I ride, and I really enjoy those who I now get to ride with. With our group we usually let us less experienced, slower riders get a head start. The experienced riders catch up and pass, but always respectfully, cause they already know my level of riding. Its all a matter of getting to know each other and look out for one another. And with the less experienced riders going on ahead, if we get ourselves into trouble, we know seasoned riders are going to be right there to help us out. It works well

Perfection is not something you should ever attain, but something to always strive for. For if we actually achieve our idea of perfection, is it then any longer perfect?

The young (what is it with Rossi) rossi that pulled the move i know rather well, and i dont think that he would've pulled the move without considering other peoples saftey first, in fact i know he would'nt of, he saw a gap and used it, and your defintion of "warp" speed is prolly a sedate cruising for speed for some. and like someone else pointed out, the corner in question is a nice corner, and after being bored to death with SH2 for so long i would've gone for it too, you're obviously annoyed at it and i guess you have the right to be.
I think the biggest problem nowadays is that there is such a diverse range of riders on group rides now, with noobs fresh on the bike and experianced old riders to the nicky hayden (sick of rossi) wanabes, really with so many rides being organized they need to be stated as to weather they would suit the more faster, experianced rider or the new to bikes, i had it many times when i have organized a ride and said fast riders only, but people dont seem to get it and the slower like turn up, normally i open my rides up to anyone, but if i want to keep it to a faster group i end up PMing other riders. (er not that i ride a hell of lot these days).
Hi LB. thanks for your comments

the guy in question has been man enough to admit that it wasn't the brightest move, and though he'd calculated it, he wouldn't repeat it.

i have only heard people speak highly of him, and my opinion is unchanged. i've gone to lengths to stress this is not personal. the point of this thread is to highlight that some riders are pulling moves on the road that are inappropriate, and not considering the consequences - or potential consequences. blame it on my ambo history, but I've seen too many times the result of an inch the wrong way to the left/right or a second too fast/slow.

I have no issue with speed, I love seeing wheelies and stoppies - and the "boys" i refer to used to do that shit around me on a regular basis. no issue - except when i was tapped out on the "H" and they made it look like i was standing still (GRR - lol)

But i'm hard pressed to be convinced that carving someone up on the inside is EVER going to be a smart/safe move on the road - no matter how well you know the people you're riding with.

i'm not trying to cause trouble here, just maybe cause people to think a bit more about their actions....i'm dissapointed at the defensive nature of some of the posts, but sadly, not surprised.

once again, thanks for your thoughts.

    Well after reading this thread...

    - Ive ridden with the red/white R1 and titanium CBR1000RR and i can tell you i rate them highly as very capible and safe riders on the road.

    - Onus is on the passer not the passed

    - There maybe crashes on rides, but this cannot be blamed on the organiser. People are responsible for their own actions.

    - I know who "the boys" the MV-senna used to ride with, and i can tell you right now they are some of the fastest riders on the road and track in New Zealand...

In the end, ride your own ride, leave the stupid passing to the track... And if you have ridden with me lately, you will see that i have no worries with waiting behind cars etc, until its safe to pass... and i dont care that people leave me behind because of that... If you want to prove how fast you are, go to the track... Where some loser on a 400 or 125GP bike can really embarrase you...

No lovie I didn't. Relationship break up earlier in the year means that sadly i can't mix with that group any more. I do still speak to them individually though - waterboy included. what about yourself? did you go? they showed the most recent dvd I believe. apparently it's the best of the lot.

It may be on a track, but definitely not so on the road.

how the hell can you ensure that you're passed safely?
As long as you are 'predictable' on the road, what more can you do?

Another one of those backwards laws?
Something along the lines of that whole 'if someone crashes next to you and they say they were racing you, thier crash becomes your fault?'

i read that to mean, the onus is on the passer - (as in the one doing the passing) not the passed - (as in the one being passed.) which makes sense really: the one doing the passing is the one responsible. if you get rear-ended in your car, generally the person responsible (i.e in the crap) is the one who rear-ended you.

    what MR posted? then yes.
If you are overtaking, then you are responsible for making sure it's carried out in a safe manor. If you are being overtaken, you just ride like you have been before the maneuver started, and everyone is happy..

For God's sake, if you're overtaking you must have 100 metres vis throughout the manouevre and carry it out safely. Then there are the various rules about where you may do so.
You are not responsible if some moron changes lanes while you are passing, but commonsense says you should be prepared for this.
Why do so many people try to rewrite the rules? Or is it because they haven't read a road code since they did their driving test?

Not accelerating, (the national sport) and not pulling out is a good start.
