    Questions Re: taking bike To Singapore & touring to Europe via India...

    Hi guys;

    Hoping some of you guys may have some advice for a friend of mine here in Melbourne. He has plans to take a container ship from Oz over to Singapore initially, where they say they will have space for his KLR250. However, they say there might be a problem at the other end at Singapore customs. Has anyone any experience of them at all?

    Also, any tips for the rest of the trip? He is really just starting to plan it now, and of course there is the option of the Silk Road (although I know nothing of the limits of his steed): anyone with any experience or advice, please give us the benefit of your wisdom -you lovely, lovely people!

    Oh, and Happy Chrimbleone and all. Even to you miserable Scrooge types.

    Hey jazzbug.
    alot of motorcycle come in and out of NZ but they have to be spotless to get in and out of most countries.It must pretty much be dirt free. and if it is spotless it will be ok'ed if it meets all the legal requirements etc.hope this helps.

    Tell him he can fund his trip and earn extra cash by taking some pure heroin over with him...just store it in containers inside the tank - customs is real slack over there,they never bother to check.

    Right,that's got rid of one more Aussie - next!!

    Try here. Its a website promoting Chris Scott's book Adventure Motorcycling Handbook which IMHO is a good guide to start planning your own long way round, hopefully there's enough on t'internet site to inspire where to go, what to avoid etc.

    A mate of mine's in Cairns, his route there is detailed here, maybe he could reverse it, ish?

    One day.......

    advrider - the search function is not much good so search the site via google.

    I'd like to do an overland trip to Europe one day... either via Africa or India... I think I'll do Oz & the US first tho.

    Cheers

    Dammit... beaten to the punch

    I was under the impression that bikes / cars / whatever have to be properly pressure washed at the port / wherever they're put in the container.

    This is supposed to get rid of all the dirt and any little bugs that might be in it.
