    Urgent roadcode question

    Hello ppl.
I'm about to sit my class 6 learners this afternoon, just going through road code and test questions, and I struck a major dilema.

    Look at attached pics.

You see... according to the road code, in both cases blue car should give way to the red car, i.e. red car goes first.

However driving the cage for 10 years It's been always opposite.... i.e. blue car goes first.

    Can somebody explain/comment ?

I've always just used the rule that if your drivers door will get hit, then you've got to give way, unless the other car is at a give way or stop sign and you're not.

Well the first one (for me) is an uncontrolled intersection. Technically, you have to give way to someone coming from your right (they're not on a give way), not a lot of people do this however, because they a)dont know the rule or b) know the rule, but dont trust the other mother f*cker to not turn across in front of them.

The other one is similar, entranceway to that type of place are like intersections. See above.

I suppose its because the red car is effectively approaching from the right.
Seems pointless to effectively have the blue car block the road, while you wait for the red car to go. Especially with the red car in the second pic coming out of a driveway (or non legal road).

The reason those rules are broken so often is that the car (blue) is on what they see as a main road so they think they have right of way.

    Go with the book.

P.S. We get shit-loads of people running into this problem regarding the entrance/exit from Newworld supermarket, they all think they have right of way over anybody leaving the car-park.

what the rules say, and what actually happens in real life driving are often two very different things.

Do as the books says and pray you don't scrotum to the real world whilst on your test, then readapt back to real life when you've passed your test.

That's how it should work, yes. But does it really happen? That's something else.

Yup blue car gives way both times - give way to your right.

If there are traffic controls that give one vehicle priority then obey them, but as someone said - uncontrolled intersections... give way to your right.

It DOES raise a worrying thought though - you've been driving a ton of steel around for 10 years and NOT doing that?

Don't worry about it for a start.
Secondly in all give way situations where you are unsure - give way to your right unless one of you are controlled by a road sign ie Give Way. The Road Code doea make this clear - apply the right hand rule.
And don't worry, you'll be fine.

You know I can honestly say I have never seen a t-intersection like that not have a give way or stop for the red car.

That's a bit of a curly one I reckon. I doubt you would find many uncontrolled intersestions like that, usually if you're turning out onto a road like that you'll be at a Give Way or Stop...

Give way to the right ALWAYS!!

Your bike is Orange - and Orange means stop if you safely can.

Considering the fact Kwaka's can hardly go I think you'll be fine (unless the brakes fail or you're presented with a hill to roll down).

    Does that help?

    from the road code

If you are turning right, give way to vehicles on your right that are turning right.
