i had the michelin pilot roads on my cbr and had done 3000k when i sold the bike 2 weeks ago and they still looked like new, found them hard on hot days on the open road, but i needed commuting tyres over the winter. They were good in the wet and on AKLD motorways

I usually get 3months out of a rear Pirelli Diablo and 4-5 months maybe out of a front Diablo, regardless of time of year too.... local bike shop loves me

Looked at you tyre after your bin and yes it did look kind of old and crusty, little cracks on it. It probably had perished over the winter and you were unforunate to find out the hard way how tyres do go off.
For future rides, if you see a girl ahead of you, dont assume you can catch her and pass her too easily. I saw you in my mirror....then I didnt see you and thought you must have turned back and chickened out with the Auckland crew. Sorry you binned your baby....hope you get it sorted soon and hope to see you out there again.

Tyres contain oil - scary shit eh? The stickier the tyre, the more oil in the compound.

Don't think I would like to keep tyres too long, not that this is a problem currently :-(

Competitive cyclists in Europe generally buy their tyres the season before they intend to use them. They feel the tyres are too soft new, too prone to puncture, so they like the tyres to harden up a bit first.

Generally I think motorcyclists would tend to the opposite extreme. I only buy the latest models as I definitely don't want something that has been sitting in a warehouse for years and has attained the friction coefficient of an iceblock.

Yep, lesson definately learnt there, won't be making that mistake again. Just hope others take note and don't have to learn the same shitty way I did.

Didn't even realise it was you I was following until I sew the pics WS took. Was never planning on catching you, let alone passing you...
had ridden to coro by myself, so was looking for a good rider doing a similar pace to follow and found you........... I was up for it, shame the bike wasn't.

Oh and BTW, haven't had the official call from the insurance company yet, but spoken to mate at the bike shop......... The repair bill comes to $15500!!!!!!!! HOLY FUCKEN SHIT!!!!!!
So she's a write-off.... really dissapointed cause she was a beautiful bike

HOLY SHIT is right.... Yet it looked like mostly cosmetic damage, apart from the crankcasing leaking a tiny bit. So is it a new bike in the new year?? Hope so....all those on that ride were a cool bunch of people and I'd ride with any of you again.

Yep, apart from the crankcase and the front subframe (holding the gauges an shit).... but I managed to scrape so many bits and they all add up.

Yep, already looking at an 03 Gixxer 750, or an ex-race 01 Gixxer 1000, or a 99 R1..... Argh, decisions!. (would rather have my baby back tho).

Agreed, very cool bunch of people... Thanks again to all who stopped to help out, and to those who offered abit of support at the pub while I cryed into my beer Hopefully it won't be too long till I get to ride with you all again.

They fucken better, otherwise there'll be hell to pay. *edited*
My main worry is that they may not insure me for another bike.
