    Hi All,

Well - the day is fast approaching... I leave for Aukland on February 14th! Can't wait!

Hope y'all had a great X-Mas and New Years. I did some long motorcycle rides and ended up getting a cough that I'm just now getting over... :-(

Will post again when the day gets even closer!

    - Thanx

Well I must admit a lot of the time I could strangle you lot for being ( for want of a better word ) Backward....

sometimes !!!..( dont get me started on the hinternet !!)

But this thread PROVES there is still hope for Humanity ..here we have a complete stranger ( prob a mad ax murderer...he rides a bike ,,and probably thinks outside the square !!....) and a WHOLE RAFT of people are lining up to show this fella around.
Also There are offers of beds, help , meetings at airports etc

THIS should be the news reported in the Newspapers ,not the crap that is

Dude ,,if this is the response to a simple email , it surely proves that NZ people are worth their weight in gold !

I agree Stephen. I've been amazed at the response I've gotten here. I wish American's were as friendly. You did get one detail incorrect. I'm no axe murderer. I prefer an ice pick...

I saw a sneak preview of "The Worlds Fastest Indian" last night here in SF. Wow, great movie. The whole audience loved it. Clapped many times during the movie, and gave it a standing ovation at the end. Great flick for NZ!

Looks like it comes out officially on Feb 3rd here in the states...

    Hey Jon,

Good to hear things are progressing. I'm still here should you want/need any help.

Be warned I'll probably be up that way at the end August (a conference in SF) and am happy to transport anything up to you from NZ if you decide you want some more of the NZ chocolate or the like!

I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks.

Excellent! You'll have to let me show you some of my favorite places. BTW, you can rent a sportsbike from a place in Marin for about $125 a day... Interested?

Hell yes - I need to find somewhere that rents them in Houston too - any pointers?

Sports bike + fuel + map = Napa Valley... plus any fun roads you happen to know of course LOL

Here's the place where you can get a sportsbike... http://www.rentasportbike.com/

My friend came in from England and got a 2005 CBR600rr that was perfect - although he ended up getting heat stroke on our ride... :-(

I can spend hours telling you about my favorite roads. There are a few great options:

    1) I can take you through a map when you get here - and I will happily be your tour guide. This is probably the easiest - and hopefully, the best option for you.
    2) pashnit.com has an AMAZING encyclopedia of California roads - unfortunately, Tim (the site owner and writer) is now charging $20 a year to access his reports - well worth it, but bummer that he charges now.
    3) MapMaps - http://www.madmaps.com/ are amazing too.

Napa Valley is fun, but not the best for sport riding - too many cops.

MUST HIT ROADS in Northern California: Skaggs Springs (we call it Skaggs Springs International Raceway), 128, 175, Lucas Valley, Route 1, 36 (if you have the time), etc.

MUST HIT locations: Alice's Restaurant in Woodside, Alcatraz (not moto related), Point Reyes, Duartes Restaurant, Sausalito, Occidental, etc.

Houston? Dunno any rental places there, but Google turned up:

Just thought Jon; do you know of that S.F disc jockey from the thread that said about "taking out' riders? Did you notice the comment getting a lot of hackles up?

I didn't hear him specifically, but I have followed the whole thing. What a bozo. He ended up apologizing and is taking motorcycle safety courses now for his own license...

Hi All, just bought a Nokia 3120 tri band GSM phone for my trip. Anyone know if I should wait to buy a SIM card in NZ or if I should order one before I leave the US?

    - Thanx in advance!
