Same thing happened to me yesterday - Set off for Puke with a pillion and it was pissing down with rain the whole time. The further I went the worse it seemed to get so I decided to turn back at Papakura. Not nice riding in wet leather - gets a bit chilly

Good attempt though, weather was all good on the North side

Here’s a pick of Crashies weather ( 7.00 am Rain Radar rain by the Waikato) you must have been like the cartoon character that always had the rain cloud above all the time while driving.

Good decision to turn round in those condition especially (I presume here) that you were riding on you own.

at least ya gave it a go, suck riding in wet weather and having wet leathers for the rest of the run.

i did a small run today you will hear the news. not good, at all. it was a slow ride with problem roads.

    Cool

Thanks gals and guys for your wonderful comments...

This arvo, I went out for ride up Old North Rd and Peak Rd, in the SUN.

Korumba - Yep I was riding alone and yeah that was where I was in the map.

Vixter - yikes mate.... ok that is now 3, so you are ok now...
Was there much damage to the car and are you two ok?

Well I split the difference and left for a ride right on 12.00 - headed to Raglan and explored some knarly gravel roads I'd never been on before, just took them on a whim,as in 'I wonder where that one goes?' Beautiful weather and perfect for my random wander. Some kid came up to me in Raglan and asked ''Is that a trail bike?'' I told him it was,and he ran off shouting to his Dad ''I told you so!'' Guess it's getting rare to see someone riding a dirt bike on the road these days.

Drove up to Auk to pick something up about 10am, riding thru Taupiri I spotted this.
Nice weather for it eh? Anyone know who they are?
They probably thought I was stalking them, kept passing each other over and again. Always had a soft spot for a well raked head.

Oh, but coming back 2 hours later the whole line of cars were slowed to a crawl over the Bombays, it utterly pissed down. Kinda glad of the tin roof.

Well I dragged my butt out of bed at 4am... was on the road by 5am... all going sweet as... I refuelled at AutoBahn and found out that a couple of riders had left about 30 minutes before me (had to be Gareth maybe).
So I figured I would be riding catchup all the way.

As I got over the Bombay Hill.... The heaven's then opened up....
I couldnt see two feet in front of me... so I was riding real slow...
Even the cars were going at a snails pace, the visability was that bad.
There was even a bit of fog as well.

I continued on towards Mercer and Meremere in the heavy torrenchal rain.
All I could see ahead of me was black sky from the rain.
It had to be raining in Huntly and Hamilton as well.
It just getting worse.. so I thought stuff this...
I aint riding all the way there in this heavy rain.

So I did a u-turn and came on home...back to Auckland and the lovely sun.
I got so soaked throu and flaming freezing cold...

But I did do over a 160km ride thou.

I am now drying out all my gear.

So I'm sorry gals and guys in Taupo that I didnt get down there today...
But I wasn't gonna risk my neck in that torrenchal rain.

    Next time.

i was in my leathers and had a windbreaker/waterproof jacket over the top. I only got drizzle.

When i left autobahn papakura and on down the waikato expressway (past mercer etc) i was basically running along the very edge of the storm. And by that i mean it was about 100-200m to my left the whole time, luckily didnt catch any rain from it though.

I turned of at taupiri(?) and took the back roads to cambridge which saves about 1/2 and hour. I was doing 160ish most of the way until i hit really dense fog which gave me about 20m vis at best. So had to slow it down, it cleared just before cambridge which left a good run down to taupo with only a lil bit more drizzle as I was approaching taupo.

Cheers to the guy on the CBR i caught up with on the way, cant remember your screen name.
