    Question Welder needed.

Metal Letterbox needs fixing. - NOW fixed see post 9.....thanks to TLVD8

I got home tonight to discover my letterbox hanging off on one screw.

The pole going into the ground is ok...
Its just the X piece attached to the pole that goes into the ground that has completely rusted away.

I was wondering if someone out there in the Auckland area..
can make up another platform with a long shaft on it that I can bolt the letterbox on to it again. The Long shaft to either fit inside the pole or to fit over it... and two bolts to go throu it to bolt it in place so it wont blow out. I think it will have to go over the pole.
I have in the meantime tied it back on with string which will only last for so long.

The letterbox is a double metal one which I and my neighbour use.
The neighbour wont pay out a cent for repairs, so I am gonna be left paying for all repairs... (there is a long story re the neighbour, but I will pay for it)...

The flap that you lift up on her side has broken off which I dont care about...
My side is ok. The letterbox is 27 years old but it is fine.
I can not afford to replace it.

Can anyone out there help me out...

If you can help I will PM you my addy to come and check it out.

    Cheers.
    crashe.

Bugger about the letter box mate!!!

Hope you can find someone to fix it!!

Else KB should do a whip around and get you a new one. In honour of all the behind the scenes work you do!!

I know that's not your style, sorry (SG hangs head in shame!!! )

    Cool

Thanks, froggyfrenchman and brent_b for your kind offers to help fix my poor broken down letterbox, especially when you live so far away.....
I really do appreciate your wonderful offer. Thanks.

I have received 2 PM's.... in which I have replied to both offers.

The string that I tied it back up with in the dark last night... is holding fast at the moment in these strong winds... but not sure how long for thou.

TLDV8 - you are wonderful mate....

You came to my rescue and I thank you so much.
You went all out to get a plate and shaft made up with spacers and bolts etc and came over and fixed up my letterbox, so that it now as solid as.

You came over over the other day, to measure it all up.... and then came back this afternoon to attach all the bits...

Hacksawing off old rusty nuts and bolts... banging the letterbox back into shape... putting back on the neighbours lift up thingee as well.
We hauled my electric drill and cord up the driveway (thank goodness the rained stayed away) and drilled a hole throu the post to hold the shaft thingee in place.

    Mate, you are truely wonderful......

Lets give this man some bling.

PS: The string that I tied it up with, was still holding in all the high winds.... so kiwi ingenuity does work.
