    eek What, no X plates?

In Palmerston North on Saturday I saw a bike with a YAR rego. This has led me to a view that LTNZ, it its infinite wisdom, has decided to forego X plates for bikes and other single-plated vehicles.

On this basis we have about three years to go before bikes get six-digit regos. The thought of this keeps me awake at nights.

Perhaps they will add more letters instead. Ie '1ABCD'. Or swap the order around, since they are '12ABC' at the moment, they could be 'ABC11'. Of course, that would conflict with cars... Perhaps we could have have Arabic letters instead, we have Arabic numerals after all. For example: 12تسقآ
In fact, there are FAR more japanese letters. We should use those instead. It would look great: 12ぁきす .

Meh, we don't need plates, we are law abiding citizens who if we see the camera flash stop and leave a note with our contact details and an apology.

LTSA intelligence will come through again (note: sarcasm).

Have you ever rung them on the phone, you can't get a straight answer, and everytime you ring if you ask about the same thing but different people you get a different answer everytime.

why can't they just give everything some special barcode or some crap? that reads it with a speed camera and cop cars heck i dunno.

just my opinion not like it's worth anything.

Just accept that your wonderful country is filled with imbecilic beaurecrats with absolutley no f&*king idea, and its all going to hell in a handbasket.
Then, realising the futility of worrying, you will shrug, give up and sleep like a baby

Only the ones that start with X. And they're black on yellow. It beggars belief that a black on white plate with an X in the middle could possibly be confused as a dealer plate...

lets hope they don't follow the example in the UK and go weird..

    ok, so:

    AA9999 & AAA999 are cars
    99AAA are bikes
AA999 are work vehicles (diggers etc)?
A999A are trailers and anything else

what else is there? And what's left? Cars are safe for a while, but then what? well who cares at the mo. What's next for bikes then? 99AA9?

Do you remember the pilot episode for “Sea Quest” with Roy Scheider.
It was supposedly set into the future and he was riding an RF-900 (or 600?) when they first came out.

He sped through a camera trap and a laser read the barcode on his plate, deducting credits from his bank account !!!

Hmm,…is that the way we’re going to head ?

I think they should reverse the current order when we run out of what we have ...ie.

AAA99 seems logical then you get way more digits before we have to start adding more letters because one day the will be(both for cars and bikes) all letters, this is obviously because with letters you have 26, with numbers you only have 10 to use.

They are just working there way through the numbers first i guess.

Then they can move onto things like AAA99 and so on, like they did with cars when they ran out they ditched a number and chucked in a letter.

Why they did not just put 9999AA instead first to use up all the numbers, i have no idea.

    Cheers: MA
