i did this one myself. Not really any effort All i did was cut what was left of the front fairing down with a jig saw. Could have done a much better job on the headlights and mirrors but i ended up returning it to original as it was going to get more money that way.
Picked it up for $1000 and cost about $100 to get it to the state in these pics.
Best thing to do is to find a fairly damaged bike, or go to the auctions (before the bidding day) and then price up the cost to get it road legal (replacing the important bits that might be broken) and see if its worth it. Normally you will only want to modify it cosmetically so aslong as you have frame,engine,swingarm,forks+handlebars in good nic you will be sweet. You can make your own rear subframe and headlight bracket.
At the end of the day it all depends on how far you want to take it and how much you can do yourself/you are willing to pay for someone else to do.
