Sigh... does it ever stop blowing here?

Few mths ago I moved into a house with NO garage. Was apprehensive about having my bike sit outside in the open but after asking KB members about security I set myself up some protective measures. Also of concern was the hideous winds I get up on the hills, but driving around Wellington I see heaps of bikes parked on the streets and thought my sheltered wee possie up the drive and against the house was a better start for sure.

Until I came home last night in the cage (just taken it to a panel beaters to get the a quote to get the front end fixed - another frustrating story), and heres my bike, tits up, in the middle of my drive!

Now my flawless baby has a broken left indicator and mirror, bent clutch and handlebars, and a ding and scuffs on the tank. Could have been worse I guess, but still... piss me off.
(I'd always wondered if I could lift my bike had it fallen over - at least last night I discovered yes I can).

So its BACK at my mates place in their garage, for repairs and a draft free environment. I have the car to get around in, however it sort of defeats the purpose of having a bike when you have to get to it 1st! But I dont fancy picking it up all the time.
Is this common? Bikes plopping over in the wind? I knows its just a wee 250 but there has to be a solution.... other than looking for a new house; however if you know any places to let with a garage and fenced section in Welly I'm interested....

I guess this comes with the territory in Wellers, although its never happened to me.
Its very difficult for the bike to be blown over to the side stand side (left hand side) with the wheel turned to the left, so if you can park it with a building etc immediately to the right, then it should be OK.

Yep the wind sux. I literally get blown into the lane beside me sometimes no matter how relaxed I am. The gusts are amazingly strong, and can be very dangerous.
There are a few Wgtn KBers who have had their bikes blown over while parked up.

What's a bit of wind every once in a while? At least you can get a decent coffee and ride the Rimutakas. And vice versa.

If you work in town then I thoroughly recommend parking your bike in James Smith Carpark. It's totally free (you ride around the barrier arms), and your bike is fully protected from the wind and weather.

Hmmm, thats exactly how it was parked! Sob sob. Thought it was pretty sheltered in there too. Am starting to wonder if some wee sneeky sneeky prick was having a play....?

It's all part of the thrill of living in Wellyville. You do get used to it eventually (sort of).
