Oooo I don't know about that. My helmet has Fluoro orange on it and the Z750 is pretty bright.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

ow fuck, being my first ride over the takas the other night with you guys i nearly did that twice but managed to keep it under wraps, i found it hard to know what speed to go at around there.

im a bit scared now thinking that im heading over there on boxing day by myself, im going to be bloody careful too cos of this and cos my boss has flowen over there before in gliders and planes and he says there are actually lots of cars sitting at the bottom.

I got to the scene after the accident and Im surprised that guy was alright. Very Lucky.
oh and keep an eye out for the gravel on the uphill side of the 2nd or third corner . If your thrashing it you wont see it till your in it.

    For the Newbies!

The most useful - single piece of information I have.........

When you're in the shit and you're coming into a corner too hot (too fast). There is always a time where you have to let your brakes go and just turn into the corner, no matter how hard you're going!
Holding the brakes on real hard will just stand up your bike and take you straight off the road.

Next time you're in this situation........

Brake until the last opportunity to lean into the corner, then at whatever speed you're doing - Just let the brakes go, Lean into the corner and most importantly - Look to the apex!

This has saved my arse twice recently!

You Newbie riders will be suprised how easily you'll pull through! Probably %95 of the time if not more. Some of you will have no idea that your bike could handle the situation so easily.

Think about this alot!!!! Because if you do, this will sit on the edge of your mind, and when that situation thrusts upon you next time, you'll recall immediately what to do. Think about it everytime you go into a corner hot too. It won't always be neccesary but it will often help you in taking corners faster - safer too.

We will definately cover this topic on the Wellington Newbie ride in January.

Best Xmas Wishes & Be Safe!

what about cornering lines? I think the technique of staying wide until you can see the corner exit is a good piece of advice. It means you have to go a bit slower, but prevents you from apexing early and running out of road if the corner continues further than anticipated.

Some scanned pages from Proficient Motorcycling on cornering:

This is soo embarrasing. The situations that Dafe is referring to is when he was trying to keep up with me! I slowed down to keep him in my mirrors as I was a bit worried he might be trying to keep up...he just leant in harder which is what I taught him to do. Good lad.

    Merry Xmas Dafe!

what dafe said, i've done that before [the letting off the brakes part] on the gn over the takas, i was carying a decent amount of speed [down hill obviously] and fount that i had been riding the wee shiter too hard or to uselessly [probably the former] and the drum had over heated so all gn riders, look out for that rear drum or be prepared to fold your pegs up

also sometimes downshifting will fuck it all up the arse too, i have down shifted a bit roughly on both bros and gn and got the back to lock up and/or unsettle and woble.

    scary shit.

i need to get taught by some decent riders......

Damn, And here I was thinking Brian Bernard taught me that on a trackday training!

Perhaps in a round about way - You taught Brian Bernard that and he passed it down to me - thus the link!

I knew somebody was gonna say -"What about blah blah blah........."

WHEN SHIT HITS THE FAN!!!! i.e. The line is already taken!!!!!
and you're going in too hot! (Too fast!)........

You don't get to rechoose your entry line!!!

I also said "One Piece of advice" because there are farkloads of things you can do, bits of advice etc but I can't be farked writing them all down - Go buy Graeme Allerdices book "The riders Bible!", but when you have a half second decision left, I'm saying don't panic and bring the bike upright as many newbies do..... Lean into the corner and Look to the apex!

    Good day up at Wangas.

My bike's sparky lead f*cked out this morning so I had to DRIVE up in my folks car. Despite a reduced passing opportunity vehicle it as still a nice drive. Not as much fun though.

Big thanks to Deanno, Drew, Nic and NC 30 (and others) for having a crack at fixing my bike.

Had a good time hanging with JK, Vas, and Velox...thanks guys.

Sorry you couldn't join us for the ride. And no, the group didn't wait for me and Dafe at the BP. I didn't catch up till Bulls, fortunately on the way up, not back.

Sorry I couldn't give you a dub. My bikes overloaded with me on it already
