Ouch. Guess they will have to enforce this pretty heavy until we "get the message". Definitely roads to avoid.

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Bloody typical. There should be separate speed limits for bikes and cars. Bikes should be allowed to go much faster than cars in towns and on the open road. They can stop quicker than cars, and on account of their reduced size avoid large dumb mammals ie humans crossing the road. This approach would promote bike sales and therefore would reduce the congestion problem, and further down the track save the world.Originally Posted by celticno6

Yep probably a few boy racers have zoomed down those roads at 80 or 90 with blowpipes playing their tune and a couple of oldies actually turned up at some Council consultation meeting saying the speed limit is too high - gotta lower to to 40. Absolute crap really always using rules to try and impose limits on the out of control but mainly to the detriment of the 99% of people that are reasonable in their behaviour.

Bloody hell!!I've noticed riding around the bays from Evans Bay through to Lyall Bay there are "Go slow zones", they don't have a speed limit up but I'm sure they'll be the next place to be slapped with this 40km/hr shite. Buggery bollocks I say!
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.
They aren't being practical. Who gives a toss about the limit. If you really must stop the speeders, put huge speed bumps on residential areas. Works like a charm, unforunately for some...

Actually, they SHOULD put big fucken speed bumps around the place.Originally Posted by Motoracer

If drivers are travelling too fast for the conditions, will a lower speed limit make a difference? It sounds like the 80km/h limit on the South M/way that was supposed to make traffic flow better.
Maybe it's just my cynical nature, but how predictable to combine the 40 limit with new cameras.

If you've ever been through Tawa you'll see the funny side of this. The average age of drivers is about 87 yrs (no I'm not there yet) and the average speed is under 40 kph. Your biggest risk driving across Tawa is dying of old age before you get to the other side. Maybe the Press got the story the wrong way around. Maybe they are going to have cameras to catch people going under 40kph? Must write to the DomPost on this hilarious idea.
Actually Bikes don't have better braking than cars, yes bikes can brakes repeatedly with out brake fade, but the best braking distance ive seen for a bike is only like 36m, but with a car the best is 33m, but other than that good callOriginally Posted by jimbo750

DOesnt stop me.... ive hit the bumps at 100kmh and no worries with a car (as long as you hit them properly and the taper down at the gutters) but that was in a cage, on a motorbike, well i treat that nicer so i havn't found out......Originally Posted by Motoracer
Does that include reaction time, that's a lot quicker on a bike.Originally Posted by Two Smoker

No i dont think it includes reaction time, otherwise the gap would probably be a bit closer, but still cars do brake better than bikes..Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

Done it, emailed the Ed tonight. Hope the Tawa-ites can take a joke. Those mobility carts can get some serious speed down main street Tawa!Originally Posted by Celtic_Sea_lily
