My first crash

Was riding around my normal loop on Sunnyside Rd in Coatesville this morning and tried to take a corner a little faster. Half way through the corner i realised i wasn't going to make it. I straightened up and tried to brake as best as i could but by that time i was already on gravel driveways and grass. I lost traction on both wheels and narrowly missed someones letterbox as the whole bike tipped over and skidded on its side into a fence.
I came out of it fine because i landed on grass and it was only about 20-30k when i dropped it. The bike however...

The front forks have bent after being wedged under a fence. Now the front wheel points 5 degrees left of centre.
The front brake lever and right side indicator have been snapped off in the slide and now there are cracks through the right fairing and windshield.

I have had a few close calls up till now and have always known i would have a crash one day. Glad i've got time to sort it out.

The bike is insured for $1200 with an excess of $500 but i dont think it should cost more than that.
Does anyone have any idea of how long and how much it would cost to get it fixed?

Not good to hear you binned it, one of live and learn things though I'll bet you are better off for the experience (just don't be in any hurry to repeat the exercise). Lucky you landed on the grass not the fence.

No idea about fixing the bike, just glad not to reading about you in the paper.

I have a complete, GPX 250, but that back tire is flat when a guy with a baseball bat was chasing me down an Auckland City CBD main road. I pulled a wheelie up the curb and canned off down the footpath ...

Anywayz ... since pulling that wheelie the back tyre is flat, I started it cold one day, took off down the road, then it started making a funny clicking noise ... like a ... "Oh sh*t another engine already?" kind of noise.

So apart from the funny engine noise flat tyre, and the fact the fairings have all been ripped off, you'd be more than welcome to put in an offer for it.

I'm glad you weren't hurt dude, pity about the damage to the bike but you've got your health and that is the most important thing!

Your lucky to come off fine tho, might be good to help you slow down a bit and learn ur limits aye.

The bike should be all good, wedge the front wheel against a post or wall and try forcably twisting the handle bars back so the wheel is pointing straight again( used to work for the dirt bikes, not sure about roadies but its worth a shot), new lever and indicator shouldnt be too much to pick up and for the fairings, might not be worth fixin up just yet as this( god forbid) may happen again so just make sure they are holding together alright with some cable ties or lock wire etc.

Should be good to go!

My first bin involved a lady doing a Uturn and me putting her in hosipital
(i just went over the top) i wound up 200 mts down the road
then had to walk all the way back up the road with lots of dullards
asking me if that hurt (she had about 18 bits put back on her head, i had

Have the forks bent or have they just twisted in the tripple clamps?
If they're just twisted (which is what it sounds like) try what Potzman suggested, or try loosening the tripple clamps while someone holds the rear of the bike down while it's on it's centrestand and twisting the forks straight again. Then tighten it back up.

Good luck with finding a replacement brake lever and indicator.
