He's an underwriter - he couldn't bite you without sending out a surveyor first and then reviewing a structural engineering report, several photos and
    reinsurance rates.

Even then he'd have to memo head office...

What you describe is the condition of Average, which was pretty much killed by the Fair Trading Act.
This no longer applies to most policies (the exceptions being some types of marine cargo cover).

In respect of your voluntary excess - you can't have it both ways, by accepting the discounted premium, you accepted responsibility for that portion of your loss.
and some Commercal Insurance, Business Interruption included.......hey this is turning into a 'Insurance Geek' thread now eg?

Excess.....agree and disagree if Nzi's policy says you only have to pay he highest excess. Insurer's cannot have it both ways either and Customer gets benefit of confusion

As far as I can see, this isn't actually in the NZI MV Policy.
It would appear to be an internal thing.

You are right it is an internal thing but Cibby Chick has pointed out the wording too.......this is where confusion reigns depending on who you talk to at Nzi.

We have our own policy wording for most underwriters including NZI.
