    went to tepapa today

they got the indian britten motorcycles built for the worlds fastest indian on display until i think the 16th...second floor by the timewarp bit. totally amazing. i was surprised at how worn the engine is...i guess they used a genuine engine...i though they would have rebuilt one or something. they have half the shell off so you can see all the internals.

    photos here:

Info on the display in Te Papa second page of this discussion.

Hi Sunhuntin. Ain't it a great display. Spent hours looking at this and Johns bike. As you did by the look of it. Was great to be able to drop the tank bag and jacket off at the desk. Like you, we had a ball. Nice pic's. It is hard to get good photo's of the Britten with the light and all.

I knew the Britten bike was out in the open, but not the Indian. Usually when they have something interestingb they lock it up in one of the display rooms and charge an arm and a leg to see it.
Righto then it's off to see it then - this weekend (back at work )
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

good pix, gixxer...didnt see any kiwibiker shirts when i was there. yep, the britten is too shiny to really be able to photograph well. would have liked them to have another one the you could actually sit in, like they did for the big harley display. would have been interesting. also a shame there was no merchandise avaliable at the stores.

does anyone know if the indian will remain at tepapa in the storeroom, or will they return it to britten, or what will happen to it?

I did ask and I think it is going around other museums. Not sure what the lady said cos I was directing her to my jacket and Tank bag as we talked. I am sure they will not get to keep it. Mind you it is only a replica.

Sunhuntin: if you want Britten merchandise you can buy it via the website www.britten.co.nz or if you are in Chch you can go to their shop just off Cathederal Square (it's well worth a visit if you're in Chch, give them a call first to make sure they're there/what hours they are open - sometimes varies I think)

    Being frustrated is disagreeable.

But the real disasters in life begin when you get what you want.
