R1, aparently Honda NZ is not good with warrenty fixes
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Don't really know that much about either, but always loved the look of the R1
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?

Cause thats all that really matters, not like any of us can ride them to there full potentional

I own a CBR1000RR and if I were you I would choose the R1. More power, look about even but the R1 is far far far more comfortable to ride than the blade!.

The only reason I only ride in the Iron man Class is I have no friends left to enter the two man events,
    my own fault really.

Usual applies: Take 'em both (more than one of each if you like) for a ride and make a decision. Problem is though, that you can't tell everything about a bike from a 10minute ride, especially when many dealers let you out on bikes with dodgy, worn rubber (can understand why they don't wanna shod it with new stuff though.

I just bought an '01 Blade. Very nice bike, instantly a piece of cake to ride quickly on the road. Doesn't seem monstrously fast though (that Honda linear power delivery thing), so I reckon an R1 would be more exciting on the road...though not necessarily faster.

If I could afford more time and money for track days...R1 all the way I reckon.

Really? I wouldn't have thought (he is looking for under $12k here, so we're talking '00-'03 models). R1 has lower bars. I guess it depends on your body size and shape.

Yep absolutely!. But thats comparing my 04 with my mates 05 R1, I think the R1 changed shape in either 03 or 04 and the bars Im sure are higher on the 04 and 05 compared to the the models before (can someone confirm this) but by sitting on both (late models) the Blades bars are definitely lower.

Even at 12k, I would probably go an R1.
