I park on the sidewalk almost every day. Shit in the states I used to lean the bike up against the wall about 4 feet away from the door of whatever bar I was in at the time. Havn't once gotten a ticket for it.

meh still to small to leave parked because people will just at any space and the road usually doesnt have a post to lock up to so i have to put it on the footpath it weighing so little and all. makes it easy to steal at about 70 kg lol

I haven't seen very many motorcycle (specific) parks in any city or town other than Tauranga in the CBD area and then there was only one for about 4 bikes.
Most places I have been the parking wardens have been quite helpful about parking near or outside the official "car" parks in small suitable areas.
One guy in Taupo even told me his hours and let me park free to do my shopping.( I know, I know how that sounds )
Haven't struck any officious bastards yet but spose I will get a ticket next time, just for opening my trap.
Free parking any where any time in the little town where we live, it's just nice to have some one park here sometimes. Cheers John.

yeah most of them seem ok, there's a couple in dunedin that i often get a wave from, good guys, on a side note of authoritai, was riding home from a mates place this morning, was about 30seconds from home when i noticed i cop behind me, didn't think anything of it as was doing nothing wrong, then the flashies come on, hmmmm didn't think i was doing anything wrong, the cop comes up to me 'just a licence check' certainly gave me a fright, i think he just wanted a look at my bike, haha didn't even check to hard that it was a 250, just asked me what size it was, because it doesn't say anywhere on it (except the barrels) haha i was just like good guy cheers for that, and was on my way, still on 0 demerit points

theres maybe two motorbike parks per block here in wangas, and they are the size of a regular car park. the mall has two parks...one right outside the door, and one underground.

i like palmerston north better...heaps of parks central to the mall. gotta love it.

We were up in Wanganui last year and I can't say I remember any bike parks there. We really liked Wanganui, it's a nice city.
I will be up there again this Sunday but unfortunately I wont be on my bike, I will be with my brother, in his cage, I think.
We bypassed the center of Palmerston North on the way through to Wanganui because of time factor.
I will always have a soft spot for Palmy, because I was borne there. (I was only a little fellow at the time of course)
We will call in there next time through on the bike and experience the bike parks and the friendly wardens. Cheers John.

the bike parks in the avenue seem to be at the very end of a row of parks...theres motorbike ones at one end, and bicycle at the other. so it would go:

m/bike...car...car...car...car...pushbike and then the reverse across the road. also the bike ones are not metered and do not have time limits either. FYI, the bike parks only go as far up the ave as the block where winz is. after thats its a free for all.

theres also a long bike park at the back of majestic square [the big entertainment thingy by farmers] i use that one whenever i go into town cos its a lot easier to get out of. just watch the corners.
the ones at trafalger square, theres one at the main entry up top, and another at the entry to the underground. i use the top one no matter the weather, dont like leaving the bike in a sechulded spot like the underground.

also, for palmy, i know of at least 3 parks well within walking distance of the big mall...and they are all decent sized ones about 3 carparks in length. i use the one up by farmers if im there. also easy to get out of, but because theres lights right there, be prepared for a slight wait, lol.

Got three bike specific parking areas here in Hamilton. One of them is next to a loading/unloading bay so no one parks there. Useless delivery drivers have hit 5 scooters parked in that area that I've heard of. Another is a bit farther down and that's the one I tend to use when the third one is full. The third one is near the movie threatre and the mall so it's usually packed full of scooters. If my trip into town is just a quick one and wont be away from the bike for more than 30 mins I'll park there or on the sidewalk (right to the curb of the bike park) if it's full. Otherwise I use the second park.

I was impressed by the availablity and standard of bike parking spaces. Even so, loads of bikes were parked on footpaths and no one seemed to have a problem with it!

How civilised is that?
