    Suspension oil MX

Just been revalving the front and rear shocks on me cr, little stiffer in the opening , leaving the high speed as is.

Posted is a photo of the oils that came out, both were done at the same time
The darker one is from front , the lighter on( as in clean and fully areoated ) is the rear

This was is the result from a couple of races and a 3 or 4 practice sessions

I dont use hardened preload spacers in the front, and thats the contamination from that mainly ....
( the contamination , keeps shim stacks open!!)

Go with the harder springs I use the hardest honda can supply , and even then Im want a touch more. the faster you go the stiffer the springs need to be ,,,mine was garbage. hence the trip into revalving ,

get some aftermarket ones for your weight...you'll never get the valving right till the springs are...

that contamination could well be happening because your springs are rubbing to hard againts the walls of the cartridge when it bows creating wear particles...maybe you could be crafty and make a spring guide?

    I am with out a doubt ;

    A; Slow
    B; Stupid
    D; Fat and over wieght
C; The biggest cheap basket you will ever meet

The honda ones were cheap 8000yen or so , the aftermarket ones are 100 us dollars...,...

at my current riding ability , the max honda catalogue are JUST adequate ..the front wheel is hitting on the expansion chamber on the landings ,,,( the reason why I upped the compression shims , and the back was kicking up so I upped the rebound on the rear

If this lot works and the whoops get faster ,,,i may spring for some race tech springs later in the year ,,,,

make some spacers for the springs then...what percentage of sag/rider sag to total travel are you running? is the valve stack your running in the front progresive?

Ps:not all farmers are are silly pricks....lmao...you know what i mean...*wink*

your going to make me reach up for my tuning book !

    here we go!
    Rider wieght 84 kg
    tyre pressures front 8 psi
    Rear 5 psi

% wieght front and rear 47.3%/52.7%

    COG y=486.7mm
    X = 738mm

Front and rear shocks ATF 600cc front
    Nitrogen rear shock 140 psi
    Front forks
    Spring sag 52mm
    unladen sag 21mm
    Spring preload 15mm
    fork tube overlap 10mm
    Total for travel 305mm

    Rear
Spring 4.4kg/mm ( no I am not getting out off this chair to check!
    Sag 100mm
    Unladen 5mm
    preload 30mm

The front fork springs are to soft and are being changed end of the month , So I went up 2x 0.2 face valve shims on the rebound in anticipation of the stiffer fork springs ( 0.42kg/mm of the top of me head..Honda spares are cheap here so I wll run a little more preload , to compensate ! but if it kicks a bit I will go back to 15mm preload and hit the compression stack with one more shim.

    base valve shim stack is

    0.2 thick x 9mm od
    0.2x9mm
    0.3x12
    0.3x14
    0.2x14
    0.1x14
    0.2x14
    0.1x14
    0.1x14
    0.1x14
    0.1x14
    0.1x14
    0.1x14
    0.1x14
I want to check this as it looks wierd may have written something wrong ..Will do that tomorrow ?

    Rebound rod stiffened by 2x0.1x12

Next month I will settle in to a weekly test programe , bit busy at the mo its tax timeand a bit busy organising this years race programme

I want to do the ISDE in NZ in NOvember ,,,but the organisers havent nailed any details down ( VIN or Not to VIN ) and as far as I can see if the country enters a junior team , then individuals are out , 3 man teams are ok ....but I is an individual !!

leave the compresion stack alone at the min....get the springs first....its only there to control the spring not to make up for the lack of spring force....let the spring take more force if your hitting the expansion chamber[ie: much heavier spring [its not the way your landing is it?]...are you a fast in fast out rider or a high corner speed rider??

Ps; I'ld love to enter the isde as a team with ya...but $$$$$$ is my problem...and skill abit down over the last 5 or so years....

    Team Poos it is then
I have no skill at all I keep reminding myself to hit the brake on jumps but I usually balls the whole thing up ...Thats why we have suspension to smoothen out those nose Jobs !!!!
The springs will be here , The adjustment to the shim stack will slow things down abit , ( Easy enough to change the base valve , bike upside down ..base valve out !) if it packs Ill remove of fiddle abit .......

    BTW
We need one more ...the team min is three ...and sean clarke is a member of KB ,,so everything is free ( well we could only ask !!!)

Actually I will email him soon to try and get everything clarified , if it dont happen by mid Feb I abandon ship..... there are other races I would love to do ,,,,,,FINKE ,,,,,, but that would kill the bank account big time !
