To highside, or not to highside

    Re: White Thrush'es image below.

This guy looks like he's stearing down the barrell of a highside.

So what is his best option?

Hold throttle as is, and hope it recovers?

Open throttle further? (would it cause the back to come right round? - Low side?)

Close the throttle? (Would that cause the back to suddenly snap back, hurling the bike and rider into a highside?)

What are ya talking about?? It's not serious yet. I do this every day!

I knew you'ld say that KK!

In days gone past, yes, that'd be my line!

I think he's lost it - I'd ride it out, more throttle, less throttle whatever it took - but it'd end up going in the direction the bike is pointing...infield.Getting the rear under control inline and on track is going to be a highside for sure,or minimum real messy both feet out wobbles and stuff.

    Gas it up and lowside

Its style of crashing. If the bike is leaning, the side closest to the ground is the lowside. Work it out from there. Highsides hurt more, and usually do lots more damage to the bike.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

No question, keep the gas on roll on but dont increase it. Lowsides are a cane across the ass and highsides are a bat across the face.

    When it doubt, gas it.

It's where the bike goes from leaning in,usually sliding, then grips and stands up suddenly, usually going right over and launching you off like a catapault....

Looks to me as if he has past the point of no return. More throttle and he is going to low side - decelerate and he is going to high side. Regardless he looks like he is going to bin it. Bike looks like it is on full opposite lock. He can't avoid the tyre to come around any more as he will have no more counter steer.

I have seen a video of a racer on a green ZX6R holding a slide similar to the picture for almost 180 degrees round the corner. looked very cool!

I'd say don't even think about closing the throtle, just do what every you can to keep it up but keep that throtle open!
