And at an advanced stage... the customer might still buy from them even if they are clearly the more expensive ones as the customer knows they'll get service and support that they'll never get from any where else.
Thats dead right mate! Customer loyalty is what shop owners/employees should be focussing on, not basically telling the existing customers to take a hike for something that would not of inconvenienced them at all then slag off the competition to try to get me to avoid going there instead.

Arrow Dunno about Pokeno (where is that anyway?)

But down here in the naki's big smoke the local Honda dealer is doing a great job in keeping it's customers happy. Esp those who have brought a brand new bike apparently. I'm bloody stoked with the service and all the extra perks that have come my way. I can't really get the issue in this thread as it appears to have changed as the thread progressed. I'm left wondering, is it the shop thats the issue, or the standard you have set, of what you expect from them?:spudwhat:

    Hi INLINEFOUR

Pokeno is just south of Bombay. About 10-15mins from Pukekohe race track.

Being a customer of theirs I thought they may want to help me out even though yes it was my problem and they didn't have to. I know other bike shops would have but I went there because they are the closest to me. I wasn't pissed at them because they said no, I thought it was a bit naff that they wouldn't even consider it even though I am a customer of theirs and I know that other shops would have which is what I did straight after.

I was however pissed at the idiot in the shop when he told me not to go to the other stockists because they aren't a nice bunch when he wouldn't even consider helping me out as an existing customer.

If you came into any shop with that sort of attitude, then your likely to get told, on yer bike. Would not even matter what sort of shop it was. I've worked in a few shops myself in the past and now work in an inpatient psychiatric unit. I can tell you that how we come accross to others can affect the outcome of what we are trying to achieve. Yea it might be morally wrong to flame the opposition, but then again, you aint going to tell customers to go there instead eh? I'm still a tad bemused by this whole thing but at the end of the day, was not there, so I don't really count. Might want to look within though before you look outwards at times though. Dunno, maybe its an AKL thing? Never had these sort of problems myself...
    Nice bike BTW.

I only came to the "idiot in the shop" conclusion when he slagged of the opposition. Oh well it all ended well for me anyway when I visited Mt Eden Motorcycles. So all's good.

I can't believe you asked 3 times. I give my kids a bollocking for asking twice. Actually, I can't believe you asked the first time. thats got to be the tightest thing I heard since a very tight thing was tightened right down tight. You bought it overseas to save money, granted the prices here are high, but it not the shops fault, its the importers, anyway, I digress. You bought it overseas to cut out all the middle men to save money, then you want one of those middle men to help you out???? WTF, do you not have a shred of a sense of fair play? Do you cheat playing solitare?

PS, that wouldn't stop me riding or drinking with you. But you'd have to pay for you own gas.

I have to agree that slagging the oppo off is a bit well er ... off

So the score is 1 all, I think.

I think the moral of the story here is that you should never forget to look after the customer.

Every time a customer walks through your door you have the opportunity to get a little more loyalty from that customer. Yeah no store owner was obliged to help FishSlayer but FishSlayer was not obliged to give them the opportunity to gain his loyalty. He gave them a chance and they refused it.

Good on Mt Eden for going out of their way to help him even tho they weren't obliged to. I hope they will be repaid.

Talk about bikeshop loyalty....the rear sprocket my local honda dealer supplied me is a wee bit too big for the chain he sold with it. Now I did run the bike with them on for a couple of trips but was not happy with it, so put the old ones back on to do Wanganui. That went fine but Ive done too many miles with them on now and have to replace them all. Now I will have to buy another rear and front and joining link for chain but I wont be buying them from here.
When I replaced the steering head bearings I first tried Geyserland Bearings and the guys there phoned around the country to see if anyone made or supplied them....no joy, so I went to the honda shop & he couldn't/wouldn't give me a price but estimated about $70. Well I then phoned Boyd Honda in Hamilton & they could courier them down the following day for $58. Honda here had already ordered them so I phoned him & told him that Boyds could do it for 58. He then told me that they would be after market parts and wouldnt be as good as his. I then explained him that are no such thing as after market steering head bearings and he back peddled and said he'd do it for $58. The next morning I went in to pick up and pay for my parts and he only charged me $50. Now that is such bad service I will never set foot in his shop again! They see me coming and rub their hands together thinking they can rip me off! It might not be a whole lot of money but I dont have a whole lot to throw around. And these rip-off merchants should be exposed!
Now Im sure he knew the sprocket he sold me was the wrong size and thought I'd be dumb enough to go back and spend more money in his shop(which I foolishly did.) Hamilton is where I'll be buying my parts now and when times comes to buy a new bike I might even consider buying from them too. Rant over.

I have similar thoughts about the same shop too.... it was like me trying to teach them how to do business and keeping their word to the customer...

one time they even back peddled their quote and said because its more than a week ago its no longer valid.... and a week ago I asked them for the quote in writing but they said I don't need it and trust them....

ffs.... and they want to beat the guys on the shore.... pufff....

Try and see it from the shop's side, I worked in parts in a bike shop. How do I know you have genuine Alpinestar stuff? Alot of the stuff off the internet is fake and out of China. Say I swapped a pair to help you out, I then sold the pair I got from you, 2 weeks later the person brings them back and lets say the stitching has come apart. Imagine now if I rang you, hey, those gloves we swapped, don't seem too good. You're response? Oh no, matey, I'll come down and help sort it out, or gee, bad luck for you!!. I send them to my Alpinestar rep, who examines them closely and tells me they are a fake, where did these come from, why are you stocking them, with my stock etc?
This shit happens, mate, and its no wonder the shop werent interested. You might moan about them, but believe me, you'd be surprised the number of customers who try and rip you (the bike shop) off as well. Its just not worth the hassle, and its a shame that a few bad eggs have spoiled it for everyone, but hey, thats life I guess.........
    But asking 3 times????

Yep Mt Eden will certainly be repaid, they have always been really helpful in the past, I have recommended them to loads of people in the past and will continue to. Droppin off some beers to them today too.

Well what would you do? Run through the streets stark naked at 350 miles per hour with bells on your toes?
