You could do a lot worse than an XR 250 down- we actually have a 250 for sale if you're interested. Pm me or MSTRS

Of course you could!. The XR250 is an extremely tame beast. Good for putting along behind the kids too.

Yes, even you Frosty.....but you might have to stand on the pegs a lot

Anything Jap in the 200 - 250 range is a pretty good starting point for a man of your experience and stature.
Experience......something you get just after you needed it

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

xr250 will be fine for ya frosty...you won't realise how much grip you acctually hav till you spent some time on offroaders...infact...I'll email a friend who has a pic of me with my knee down on my klx300 on a grassy paddock!!!!

a drz250 will have a slightly lower seat height though and be easyer to start [elec start]...xr250s are bastards to kick start at the best of times...

That XR 250 that MSTRS is selling looks pretty good Frosty - although the blue fork gaiters are a serious concern, but a good point to start negotiations with....if he'd do that with a bike, what else is he capable of??

Trouble with all the 200s is they all have crap suspn and brakes, you need to move into the 250s to get good suspn and brakes....or else move into the faster 2 smokers, which is what you don't need trying to keep tabs on a kid with a PW50.for something cheap, bullet proof and ideal for your purposes I'd look at a DT175 - they've been made forever, and handle and perform better than most older style trail bikes.
