You wouldn't want them in one big group anyway, defeats the purpose - too hard to notice stuff.

Break up into groups of 5 or 6 , each with an experienced rider following behind. And an experienced rider in front of each group if yu have the numbers . (One at front to show how, one behind to watch and pick up mistakes) . Ridemaster at the front, Tail End Charley at the back .

Each experienced rider mentors his own group, Ridemaster keeps it all together, and TEC deals with breakdowns, crashes (Gawd forbid) and re-educating wan**er cagers who do stupid shit.

Some groups could be 100kph , some 70 , so long as they all regroup regularly.

If there are spare experienced riders, use them as pointsmen, so the Ridemaster doesn't have to stop at intersections. Experienced guys can get a bit of a blat catching up again once TEC is past.

Nobody passes Ridemaster, on pain of. If you have 100 and 70 kph groups you probably want a second Ridemaster at the front of the 70kph group to avoid them speed creeping.

I'd be keen to tag along..

don't forget to reiterate the point of staggered road riding in groups. Open roads are different. But group riding on town roads is different.

As for the 70kph rule, I still think it's a dangerous stupid rule. I wouldn't be fussed about enforcing the 70k rule, just be level headed and safe. Bikes are the only license-speed restricted thing on the road, which is down right dangerous. But at the risk of loosing the point of the thread, group riding at 100 should be fine for most, as long as they follow the basic rules.

Yep... depending on the number of people out I'll break it down into smaller groups as you say.

We'll need a reasonable number of experienced riders there...

I've posted up a calender event, and would be great if people who are turning up could start registering on there so I can get an idea of numbers

Great idea Weasel , i have been on my 600 for 5 months, ride with a couple of seasoned riders on 900's......... i watch them very closley, well, one i do, the other has a crazy right hand at times and likes the 240 kph spurts. Gear selection going into corners is something i have worked, had to stop that drifting feeling, i would been keen as hell to join up on a ride, im off on a 2 week break at Ruakaka on the 15th, but any other time i would have a look at it for sure

    Question Quiet roads

I think Sunday would be better, it should be quieter than Monday especially in the morning which would be good from a safety perspective. Any idea what time you wanna start?

Thinking of a CBD meeting in Auckland domain (or thereabouts) at about 9ish maybe, then pick up some others out at westgate or over at takapuna, depending on which way round we go.

    Don't go north, Weasel.

    For learners, I suggest Clevedon-kawakawa-Kaiaua.

It is more open and predictable. Only 2 dangerous spots, but I believe you can dispatch a fairly quick rider to stand guard on those spots.

I nursed a group through there before. The road is perfect for learning.

I don't mind going along if it is Saturday.

heh, what do you know, weasel was reckoning wellsford, I tossed in kaiaua as another option when we started kicking around the idea...

you talking about the two left handers that suddenly tighten up?? Then again, there are a few more lefts and rights that are unusual for the norm of the road.

The few odd corners are why we sorta went with wellsford, but kaiaua has the fish and chips and what not.

Wellsford has too much straights that teaches nothing. Not to mention traffic too. I also saw quite a number of KB binned in that route. The Silverdale-Riverhead route (if you are taking it) is quite swamped with fatalities too.

Kaiaua way has more sweeping corners, which are good for learning lines, especially if you are doing slow-ish speed. Just don't watch the scenery too much.
And, as you said Gremlin, the fosh'n'chops ship is a good one.

Do you know what is the motto of pre-1994 GSXR riders?

    "Turn you bloody thing! Turn!"
