Burt munroe made his bike fast, it wasnt done by Indian, just as the teams that make land speed records make there machines go fast, not the original source of the donk.

Buells are Buells, they are owned by Harley Davidson, but arent Harley Davidsons. I have yet to see one advertised as a Harley or a buell owner say they have a harley. Buells are created by Eric Buell and his designers, not Harley, who orginally wanted nothing to do with his company.

Harleys in general are to long, low and raked out to be good on brakes or corners and engines without the output to be considered fast. (aside from the porsche powered vrod) The are very reliable, hold value extremely well, are comfortable and owned by passionate owners who adore them. (who I frequently exchange waves with) Heck I have even advised people on this site to ride them.

It just another ford vs holden, coffee vs tea, gingernut vs toffeepop, husqvarna vs stihl, mac vs pc thing. theres no harm in it, just like theres no harm in occationally being beaten by a bicycle.

That's the weight you are pushing,if you reduce the weight the bike needs to push to maintain that speed, you need less HP.

not quite sure how the Buell would run on butter tho and damned expensive too really!

All I'm saying is don't knock any ride until you've done a few miles on it, I've ridden a variety of bikes, none are perfect and ALL are compromised in some aspect.
Just depends on what you're prepared to put up with.

(And if you own a H-D you've got to put up with a lot of shit - and that's the most negative aspect of having one).

will you consider woodville to wellington a ride that will give me an idea of what an 883 sporster is like? i think i'll just go drible over naked sportsbikes instead, i hate the rideing position of any bike that is upright, which is why i had upside down motor cross bars on the gn, but it was a piece of shit for long distances anyway. im sure if my back and neck werent fucked id like a cruiser....

And that every low life thinks it belongs to them.I spent 15 years trying to keep hold of my British bikes,I don't want to ramp up my security measures by the power of 10 just to own a Harley.Dirt bikes are on the wanted list too....wish I still had my lime green C50,it'd be a pretty desperate criminal who desperatly needed to steal that.

Hear what yr saying D-lover ( BTW I love Ducs too! ) but its pretty hard to judge the entire HD range based on the experience of an 883 Sporty...
each to their own... That said I owned an 883 many moons ago and adored it, it was a hugely powerful trailbike in my eyes and it did heaps of off-roading!
