If he spoke to the officer direct and got the fine in his hand then they would have his details. If it was a camera fine, it would come to us first.

i've been fined plenty of times for being slightly over the limit
    111 in a 100 was the latest.
was travelling on a backroad at a very sedate pace (100-120)
2 highway cars came flying up behind me (they would have been doing
    140plus),
    baaa, what can ya do?

why were u speeding? they ask
    i was speding? i ask

its not like you can do anything about it at the time.......
    but
you can take it to court and make them prove the accuacy of the equipment etc.
    Which its what im doing

100, then lose license for 3 months, if I'm correct.

And it isn't 10 for each breach, breaches can go up to 25-50 points (more and more over the speed limit will also cost more), and they can apply multiple breaches at a time.

Just to add to the debate although most points have been covered. I am a Franchise Owner for one of the large American Rental Car operators in New Zealand. We always explain speed limits to our customers, most say if they speed and get caught they will pay. If we receive an infringement notice from a speed camera for one of our cars we notify the Police by letter telling them who the Hirer was at the time of the infringement. If we do not do this we can be liable for the fine as the vehicle owner. As I understand it most people are now chased for the money owing for fines even overseas. As you will apprecate over the Summer periods lots of speeding tourists return lots of $ to the Govt coffers.

Careful.... you might end up with criminal background - and then you know what happens...
DEPORTATION to the prison colony of Australia!!!

(I'm sure that you still need criminal convictions to get IN there...)

sounds like a camera ticket. no points (demerits) incurred for those. you could either pay the 30 quid, never to be heard from again, or write to the address on the letter (the Infringement Bureau), asking for a photo of the alleged offence, and full discovery of all evidence that would be produced at a hearing - you are entitled to it for free. if they decide to continue after you've asked for all that, then at least you're only 30 quid down, and at least you've put it off for a bit.

and if you think that being pinged for 11k over is tough, don't go driving on the east coast of the west island - 5k over is the norm there

I thought you only got demerits from being pulled over, pretty certain a camera only results in a monetary penalty, no demerits.

It was a camera and it was sent to me direct from the NZ Police, the cheeky bastards, put a pre-pay envolope inside and said to reply using it, doesn't really work when you are in UK, a NZ pre paid envelope.

So I think I will reduce the fine to suit and they can for the rest.

(these smilies are the best collection I have seen)
If someone passes you he is a nutter and you expect to pick him off the blacktop round the next corner, if you pass someone they are a slow and have all the gear and no idea

Send it back anyway, take photographic evidence of doing so.

Did they then give each other tickets for 140?
