You're bringing it up too high and prolly too fast then...small steps bud. I spent some time yesterday practising just pulling it up in 1st to the right height (approx 1.5 mtrs) until I was comfortable with that, then hooking 2nd seemed a breeze, and with a bit more practise in throttle control it became smoother and smoother till I felt it was time to start on hooking 3rd...on my short ride to work this morning i pulled a shortish wheelie to see if I had retained my new found skills, and yep 1st, 2nd woo hoo! :spudguita

what's stupid, is I can understand and 'think' how it's done. I can figure that bit out, and the feeling of the balance and minor throttle changes.. all fine. I can do that. I just keep getting the shits getting up there.. I do need practice. I need to find some quiet long stretch/car park and just spend an hour doing it.. and get used to the feeling. I used to be a lot better than I am now, I've gone backwards some how.

The old dilemma of knowing the theory but finding the practical difficult huh!

I think there should come a point, after copious amounts of practise, where it starts to *feel* natural and you don't have to give it much thought. If this hasn't happened at the stage you are at presently with your wheelies then I would recommend to stop doing them or else the inevitable will happen...if the natural feeling/ability has been achieved then you just need more practise to develop it.

Stunts are not for everyone, just like in most sports there has to be some natural ability/talent to begin with in order to do well and excel!

    YEAH!

I did it tonight too...my first time...

I've always considered myself more of a cornering dude and not a wheelier, but after hooking in to second and carrying it that little bit further, I got a glimpse of why dudes practice them so much and enjoy carrying them for miles.

It was still a pretty shite wheelie by the standard I've seen from dudes like Zed, dss3, and that John fella...but it's definitely a start, and I've had my eyes opened to the joys of carrying the bike on the back wheel...

The fact that it overshadowed, in my mind, a good hour of carving through some very nice corners says it all. Better start buying fork seals in dual sets.

You guys are all supposed to be experts and you've only just found second gear on your bikes?????

Yeah, well...those new sprotbikes ones will lose you your licence in first on the highway anyway so there's never really been a point...this hooking second thing is reflective of an increased environmental awareness amongst bikers of late...we're trying to save valuable fossil fuels and reduce emissions...there, now you understand.

I can get the ZXR up onto the back wheel perfectly fine, the problem comes in getting it well balanced enough to attempt to hook another gear. 250cc just aint enough power to play with. Just gotta keep trying i guess...
Suspension set ups help heaps. I just cant get either my cousins CBR 250 rr or my brothers ZXR 250c to wheelie. I think suspension and life left in clutch plays a huge part in getting small bikes to lift...am i right?

I was taking the micky mate Second gear as in second gear while ordinary riding. The only wheelies I do are unintentional.

thats because the combined weight of you and your bike is just over half a ton

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Mate, I must of put on some serious weight then. Bike, fueled up and ready to roll at 250kg and me at 85kg. Oh, my gear, another 10kgs.

By the way, there's guys in the UK that pull stoppies on the 1400 and huge wheelies, even in third gear. One guy even wheelies it with his legs hanging over the bars and sitting on the tank. Not for me. Don't fancy having a quarter of a ton land on me vitals when I flip it.
