    Having fun without plod...

I just read some of the older threads about bikes getting impounded. Aye, pretty sad times. Back in the day when we used to ride 'freight train' style in the UK, we had a ploy that worked alot more than it failed for avoiding getting nicked at high speed. In our group of 8 riders, one guy would ride out on the pre-agreed route, going quickly, but not fast enough to get nicked. He'd ride for say 20 minutes, and then pull up at an agreed point. BUT, if during that time he saw a cop, he would turn around and head back the way he came. If you see him before you get to the agreed meeting point then you know there's a cop between you and the said meeting point. Worked well, you should see the cops' faces when 8 sportsbikes pass them doing EXACTLY the speed limit!!! Of course that was years ago and I'd NEVER DREAM of trying it here...

Would only work on a stationary copper...

If he was travelling towards you then the point man would have to pass him, then overtake, then speed away from the copper in order to reach you before he does.

You could ride 10 km's ahead and if you do see a tax man, bang off a flare. The wicked speeders will see the flare ahead and become non-wicked quickly.

This might be the wrong Forum for you Weasel. Try 'Online Trading' and flick the ZXR or 'Hogs and Other Cruisers'.

    Just kidding.

It worked for us, and the other 400,000 sportsbikers over there. But you're right, it only worked on stationary coppers - which is what we encountered most, hiding behind a bush/rock/bridge with a radar gun. Passing a cop the other way never seemed to be a problem, and if it was, it was time to act like a shepherd and get the flock out of here...

Time and a place for everything, get the right time and place and there'll be no coppers to bother you

Works a little diferent in our group. The "shock absorber"tm I always end up out the front goin like the proberbial bat. When any of the highway gather's are up ahead. They catch me .and the rest of the group slides past while the cop is distracted writing out my tickets
There is no dark side of the moon, really, as a matter of fact. Its all dark...

If you have a large enough group they will leave you alone full stop, we once went over the ranges in NSW at a little over the prescribed 100kph, there was two of us about 40 secs ahead of the rest, as we went around a sweeper a cop saw us and slammed on the brakes/flicked the roof lights, thats when he went out of my sight, being good boys we slowed a little to let him catch up, but the 10 bikes behind us said he was about to pull a u-turn, saw them, turned off the lights and drove off...

Maybe it is too hard to identify in a group that size/safely pass the non speeding bikes (another idea here is too takes ages to let him past to overtake the lead bike), or just sort of scramble the bikes up mixing them all up so they aren't sure of what bike was the culprit they radared/lasered...

Another way we were told by motorcycle cops themselves, is travel in larger groups, stagger your party left/right on the road and keep it as tight as safely possible so they cant identify the speeder.

Aha, thanks for that moderator...here it is again :-)

It's been a long while since I've owned a road bike, but here is a list of things I would not recommend doing.....naturally, I never did any of these things countless times.

Never wear a reversible jacket of a different color on each side over your bright racer leathers.
Never carry rolls of different colored electrical tape in jacket pockets, a plainish helmet and plain painted race rep fairing (like black)
I certainly would not recommend doing a runner, turning off reversing the reversible jacket then laying lines of electrical tape over helmet and fairing to change appearance enabling you to pass the same fuzz 20 mins later with no probs, hell no. don't do it!
I also do not recommend you carry a map of unfamiliar roads you may be riding on or forced to turn into.

For the losers, oooppps I mean responsible people who do stop, They always seem to ask if you knew what speed you were doing, NEVER say you do, ALWAYS act very surprised, shocked, and a little dismayed, don't lay it on too thick. Always be courteous and respectful throwing in terms like "officer" and "sorry", if it's real serious, even "sir"....it works out cheaper that way, and at times, even free!

Great thread, like OAB said, awesome read
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
