if you change the bike to a 17" or 19" front wheel, your speedo will be WAY out.
a lot of SM riders ditch the instruments and run a cycle speedo as you can re-calibrate them easily and they are very small and light.

of course i'm assuming the TTR has the std 21" front wheel and you're intending to change this - as per the pic you attached.
PM me for more info if you need help.

    Quick Question:

    Question for the dirt bike types;

Is the TTR similar / comparable to an XR650?

Is the XR in any way superior, (other than the obvious water cooled vs air cooled)?

The XR's of the same vintage seem to be a little more expensive, is this just because they are a Honda or because of some tangible benfit to the XR?

    Thanks again,

Cheers, I hadn't even thought about that, despite it being bloody obvious. The bike I'm thinking of buying is stock standard, if I get it I'll look to modify it over time.

    No sweat.
my bike started life as an SR500 and i've changed a lot of it.
i can put you onto a great wheel builder, and his prices are good.
i changed mine from 18" front and back with drums front and back to a 19" front and 17" rear with discs.

Anyone want to try and talk me up to 100% or otherwise?

Long term plan would be to turn it into something like this:
I looked at one of these before getting the DRZ, had I'd been able to get the TT for the $$$ I had at the time, purchase would have been definite.

Have you got a DRZ 400 or 650?

I was kind of interested in the DRZ400 super motard model but in hind sight I think it would be better to get the dirt bike model and convert it to a motard.

I'm considering two offers on TTR's but I've just become aware of an XR650 thats in my price range and has a number of after market mods on it, now I'm confused!

The XR650 is a good rig. Same focus as the TTR but if you like adding gadgets & farkles there is far more bling available for the XR as they sell them in the states unlike the TTR.

There is the DRZ400 and a DR650, dunno what the difference is though. I ended up eith a road legal DRZ400e and I love riding it, might get motard wheels for it one day too. The tell me that the DRZ motard is quite detuned compared to my bike. Took one for a ride and was not impressed at all really. If you have found a XR650 you like, I'd go for it if I was you, being a superior brand and all Had I had an alternative to the DRZ at the time I would have probably taken it, not being fond of the Suzuki. However, after owning/riding it awhile I can see that its a great bike. At the end of the day, get what it is that you really want, can afford and don't take much notice of what others tell you to buy. But IMO, I'd go the Honduh as they make far superior bikes

Well personaly,if we are talking old school aircooled XR600s,I think the TT is the better engineered bike...but the XR was faster and handled better.I just like the more robust Yamaha build....and the dry sump. But if we are talking water cooled XR650,it's no contest,go for the XR.

yep - i'd go the XR too - is it electric start or kick only?

They are kick only,it'd be a much more popular bike if it had the electric leg,but Honda won't listen.Anyway,I'm sure the guy in question has huge thighs....

But is the modern XR650 not water cooled? I was assuming that what was on offer.

There is the old skool XR650L which is aircooled & pretty rare here & then there is the big bad XR650R with liquid cooling & alloy frame etc which is a lot more common & I assume thats what the man is looking at?

    Cheers
