Spud, have you considered the Yammy XT660X?

On that note, can someone explain this new tech to me. Read it a couple of times but still don't have a clue what it's all about .

He'd probably consider it if it was the same price as a 2002 XR650....

I don't know what the hell the add writer is on about there - it's just a roller rocker...jeez,even my Pajero has them.

Tried one a few weeks ago but it just didn't quite do it for me. I liked the motor, it had heaps of torque but the bike felt like a big nothing, like it wasn't a dirt bike, it wasn't a road bike and it wasn't a motard bike. It was probably a little of each, which is no doubt what Yamaha intended, I'm more interested in a proper big bore dirt bike that I can ride on the road and thrash as motard.

In that case what about the Aprilia SXV 550? Obviously it's a little more than you're looking to spend. But could at least be good for a test ride.

If I win Lotto any time soon I'll be ordering an Aprillia, sadly I'm on a beer budget these days so the Honda or the Yammy are the best I can manage.

I'll sort out some pics tomorrow, I have to clean up the card in my camera first.

First impression is that the XR is what I'd hoped the TTR would be. It's a real grunter, has heaps of low down grunt but doesn't flatten out early like the TTR did. It has a full after market exhaust system and a jet kit in it, which no doubt lets it breath better but the difference was quite incredible.

I took it for a quiet squirt on a dirt road and that was a learning experience for somebody that has ridden road bikes only for 25 years. I've got a lot to learn! It'll get supermotarded at some stage but that will be a long term project as the budget is limited. I'm just happy to be on a bike again.

Great looking machine Spud.

It's certainly got fun written all over it.

Also the benefit of tarding it yourself means you get to choose the comprimises based on your needs/desires rather than someone else doing it.
