    My fevered imagination

imagines a Honda GB400TT (the single seat, fairing one), with a Honda XLV650 transalp motor in it.

the rear cylinder might be an issue, but it would be a (very) poor mans Egli Vincent or Norvin tribute....... (in dim light, from 15 feet away).

I reckon it could be done.... getting a GB aint so hard (Im watching one on tardme) but the XLV motor might be another story.

XLV has a twin disc spoked front wheel too !

I havent actually got one, or measured anything, cos I am in the ideas group, but I wonder.............

    also I have a VF750F for sale.

Have you read the GB500 FAQ? (http://www.thumperpage.com/articles/gb-500faq.html)

    Perhaps also http://www.thumperpage.com/articles/rzgb500.html

My opinion (you get what you pay for) - stay with the single

Wouldn't it be easier to try and add the fairing seat etc to one of those Honda Bro things?

The XLV600/650 is water cooled,so there is some plumbing to do.The XLV750 is a narrower angle V,is air cooled, but has a dry sump and shaft drive. As far as the frame goes, you're better off converting it to ''Featherbed'' top rails, gets rid of the seat tube and allows room for the rear cyl.Lots of work....I don't do lots of work anymore, the ''too hard'' basket gets full.

I know what you mean about "too hard", but I like the way the GB looks, but not goes. Incidentally the GB400TT Mk 2 that I bought brand new from Sawyer Honda was the very first new bike I ever bought.....). Those Honda Bros go quite well, but are butt ugly IMO, and

With a *lot* of help from my friendly neighbourhood mechanic (OK, he did virtually everything), I have transplanted a 1990, UK-Spec NX650 Dominator motor into it(from a stolen/recovered bike from a bike breaker). Bolted straight in, though we had to swap the alternator, igniter and kickstart levers over. The 500's top end pull to the red line is gone, but in its place I have enormous gobs of stonking torque that peak at 5000 revs (power peaks at 6000). The gearing is a bit tall (15 and 36 tooth sprockets): 5000 at 70 mph - in fourth! 4000 in fifth; but once we've got the breathing sorted out and the fairing back on the bike I'd like to see how far it'll pull in top. (Dropping to a 14-tooth front sprocket at a later date gave much more usable gearing.) We need to attach a rearset linkage for the gear lever, as at the moment I have 1-up 4-down, which is not very satisfactory, as every now and again I forget... Thanks to Laf Young for going on before and providing lots of useful information.
