Picked up the SV650S this evening..... Life is GOOD!!
Apart from John Wright's bike at my basic handling skills course, this is only the second bike I've ever ridden. Coming out of Colemans at 4.55pm and heading to Howick was not the ideal "first ride" but I was surprised that it wasn't that hard to get used to. The most distracting thing was that the fairing doesn't move with the handlebars, which is real strange for one who's only ridden naked bikes. Stop start traffic all the way back to Howick, and took the family out for dinner to celebrate the new bike - my wife's idea!
After dinner, about 7pm, I headed out to Maraetai, then Clevedon, stopping to take some pics along the way, and next thing I knew, I was in Kaiaua!! I was running the bike in so attempted to keep below 5000rpm and vary the revs. Even so, the available torque was very impressive, and I was only using small throttle openings. Taking things easy, but the bike was so stable in handling that I found myself taking corners at almost the same speed as I do on the VTR while still scrubbing the tyres in. The bike's so quiet too, 100km/h at 4750rpm rather than 7000rpm... I noticed a lot more wind noise, and HAD to stop and put in my earplugs. The fairing sure makes it more comfortable travelling at the speed limit. Home just after dark as I took the long way to avoid the roadworks on Whitford Park Road. 1km when I left Colemans, now 185km on the clock. Wrists were quite sore when I got home but now about an hour later they feel fine. Wonder what a proper sprotbike would be like!!!
I'd be really surprised if I took the VTR to the track day - The trip down and back would be sooooo much better on the SV, and I suspect on the track too, but I haven't explored that side n the SV yet!! Hope the weather holds!!
