Well I'm not sure about that, The person I spoke of above tried a SV650 before the GSX600 and she found it rather atimadating.
I also have friends that have been to Vtwins like the TL1000 (after many years riding) and found the same thing.

I can see why, A V2 will bite in down low were as a muilty needs to be wound out a bit first so its easier to keep under control.
The guy that had trouble with the TL1000 now has a Bussa and loves it.

But as for me its V twins all the way 4's belong in cars
    cheers DD

Exactly how much do you think you're going to get paid 'in the forces'?

Hmmm, The purfect bike $25k, Insurance $40k, Last will and testiment - priceless.

I pushed myself - and knew I would crash as a result - even admitted so. Same thing woulda happened if I went to a 600 instead of a thou - had nothing to do with the bike - it was the rider. Feck - I rode a 250 this week and rode it exactly the same as the R1....cc's has nothing to do with it.

My point is - just because a bike is 1000cc - doesn't make it any more or less dangerous than a 600 - it is, and always will be, the rider. No bike is dangerous until someone hops on it. The jump from a 250 to a thou is not a stupid move if you treat the bike like a 1000cc bike. Most people will have early accidents on a new bike purely because they aren't used to it - regardless of the CC's of the bike.

To say a 1000cc bike is not a suitable jump from a 250 is ridiculous.....as it comes down to the individual rider.

Things like the size of the rider is fundamentally important - hence the thou for me - I would buy the 600RR.....if I could fit on it.

To come back to the original question

If you want 'fucken quick' - go for a 'Bus/Blackbird/ZX12R.

If you want hell quick and better handling - go for a GSXR1. R1, ZX10, CBR1RR

If you want really quick and even better handling - go for a GSX6R, ZX636, R6, CBR600RR

At the end of the day - any sports bike 600cc and up will have superb handling and great speed - it comes down to which you prefer.

The only difference is, the higher you go in cc's - the quicker you lose your license and the worse the handling becomes.

I disagree..... most smaller bikes, like the FXR150, allow you to be "stupid" in a corner, like booting it while leaned hard over, snapping the throttle open when you just want to go a bit faster, correct alot in corners, and also dont encourage you to pass things quickly. They are light and easy to handle, and jumping to a 1000cc bike will change all these things. If you dont know *exactly* what you are doing you can easily get into trouble. I went from a 125/250 to a 650, and it was still an eye opener as to how much less forgiving in the corners it was. And the beemer is a forgiving and not very powerful bike.

I went from a gutless 1982 GL 145, started to overheat at 110, to a 1986 GPZ600R. Not the fastest 600, but the performance change was the hardest thing to get used to. Courners had to be taken a little eairler, and ad to start to slow down a bit sooner etc.

Racing from one courner to the next happens a lot faster in a bad way untill you addapt to it.

My advice is that if you have the pingers buy a late model 600, that way you can flick it with out losing the same amount as a new bike, it will handle excelently, and will be a damn site quicker than the 150.

You don't say how big you are,if yer under 65-70 kg then a 400 will be a good choice if yer a bit bigger consider a 600.....
My opinion:don't even consider a Busa/Blackie/ZX12 until you have a decent amount of experience, these things are very unforgiving and will kill you double quick!
The thou's are better,at least they handle well, but a bit of a slip with the right hand when cranked over will spell doom without the experience to know what to do,these things aren't made for beginners.....
the 750's are more forgiving, but a 600 isn't much slower and gives a bigger margin for error....
I'm gonna say look at a SV650 too, they don't have the instant grunt that the thou V-twins have, and handle pretty decently too

If you stay under 500cc the insurance is alot cheaper
My 500 is actually 498cc so I qualify for the cheaper rate.
It still goes fast enough to loose ones licence and to keep up with the bigger bikes ( well sort of) on a trip if they stay under 140

I should be out riding instead of taking a break on here from the accounts. Must polish the bike for tomorrows
