    Talking Biggest Blasts

I passed UE which is supposed to indicate some intelligence – at times I beg to differ – I just have a good memory. I am blonde but never considered myself stupid – so how did I end up being a pillion on my own bike – doing 230kph??!! In some peoples eyes that is enough to certify us permanently insane!

If anyone had predicted that scenario 18 months ago or earlier – they would have been told in no uncertain terms I might be blonde but fecken stupid I’m not. No-one rides my bike but me! And I would certainly never trust any male to even pillion me – especially on MY bike!! Until I met Sugilite.

At that time I had a BMW K100RS – I did not know his history with bikes! Just that he rode as well – a dirt bike as I recall! So I pillioned him and got up to 180kph. When we finished he hopped off and said “you are a good rider “ how do you know that I asked “I knew by the 3rd gear change” – I race bikes – I am a self taught rider so had no idea. On another visit to him he suggested he pillion me on my bike – well on the way to him I was shitting blue bricks – I hadn’t been pillioned since some nutter (who didn’t know how to ride) took me on his bike some 12 years ago. Anyway I made him ride my bike around his driveway – he reminded me he raced and had tropies and medals etc – (embarrassing to recall now) my reply was – this is my baby – no-one else has ridden it!!! I was almost hyperventilating as I got on the back with him – he asked what was the speed limit – 140Kph?? I thought yeah I go faster than that so I should be ok. I just didn’t realise he also meant around every bloody corner as well! It didn’t take long for me to realise he really did know what he was doing! And I began to enjoy it – that was a year ago!!

Last Sunday, we had a real blast!!! Sugilite raced at Taupo and we returned to Hawkes Bay, had dinner then went out on my bike (Suzuki Bandit 1200CC) – me as pillion. A month before I had introduced him to Middle Road out Havelock North Way – needed a crowbar to get the smile of his face – so we did that ride again – faster this time and a few more wheelies included – I wondered what the f was happening at the time – I thought jesus mate ya pushin your luck!! Soon got used to it and it was pretty cool. Got to Patangata Pub – had a drink, talked with the locals about where the other road led to – apparently back to Havelock North. They oohed and aahed over the bike and what an awesome nite to go out riding.

Well they would have heard the bike for the next 5 minutes after we left!!! Long straight followed by some tight corners up a hill – this was the most amazing road – We were at one with the bike and I reckon I’m now a pro-pillion!!! I was almost hyperventilating but only due the extreme high speed!!! We slowed down a little visors up talking about the recent set of corners when this Buell went by – 2up. I thought oh shit, hang on – he aint gonna let this go by!!! I was right – later he says he knew I would be pissed off if I let them get away with it!!! Bugger knows me too well!!!! Ok so I gave him the signal to go for it – little knowing what I was in for! Well we caught up pretty fast and Sugilite kept on his tail teasing him, sometimes backing off etc – I saw this corner coming up and thought right after this he’ll really lay it on – WRONG – I gotta admit – this next maneuver was executed with the utmost skill – just whipped out quickly and powered on – christ my hands went round his waist hangin on for dear life!! And a bloody corner comin up to boot – it was exhilarating and I managed to sneak a look at the speedometer 230 kph and rising – left the Buell behind – that guy gave it a good shot tho! Sugilite said there was also a lot of grunt left in the bike. Unfortunately we didn’t stop and chat – gave the thumbs up sign and yelled Awesome. We were both buzzing after that ride. What a total blast!

Cool story BMW! Sounds like fun.

Reminds me of my days of being pillion with Goubes on his RZ500. He would come & take me for rides for the hell of it. From Rotorua to Te Puke and back in 30 minutes....and that was with 10 mins for a ciggy in between.(and 10 bucks gas) Wheelies and stoppies everywhere was the norm. He is the only person I would ever offer to take me on my own bike and show me what my bike is capable of.

Local knowledge is great when one knows the road and the corners
Just pick the times and places, it pays not to boast too much on this board as there may be some reading your expolits and will keep a special eye out for a certain Bandit.

My first ride with WT was just after he'd binned his during the 'wheelie in the wind' episode. So with him being bikeless, and me being a bit hungover, we decided to go on my brand new bike with me as pillion. Headed over the Rimutakas then out to Lake Ferry at a very brisk pace. Awesome fun and he managed to scrub in parts of my tyres that would never have touched tarseal with my riding.

Tis very cool reading about this ride from the pillion point of view!
Though I think you meant the ride lasted about "230 kms" hehehe

The Buell team put on a real good show, very impressive...Smooth and fast. Great to see!

Thanks for the write up BMW!

    Could not agree more.
We were riding about 7pm Sunday, so most farmers are indoors at this time and most Sunday driving families are too. It's the sun strike you really need to watch for around this time.
These days I only wind it up on corners and sections of road with full visibility.
If I cannot see, then only conservative lines and speed are used.
I'm always on the lookout for farmers working sheds as well as their main houses.

I have a race mode, a road ride mode, and yes, even a pillion mode, I ride for them, smooth and gentle, not necessarily slow though, though this depends on the pillions speed prefs!
I like to just roll off the throttle and ease the bike into corners with out touching the brakes, it makes the pillions ride so much smoother!
