Well first you need to get your baby crated up, apparently the best way to do this is to find a dealer who should have crates from new bikes, get the bike disassembled and fitted into a crate, the reason for this is two fold, you should reduce the risk of damage and it is much easier to get it into a container in this format, you pay on weight and volume, an assembled bike has quite a bit more volume than one with the front wheel taken out.
As for shipping the idea is to use a reliable agent on both sides, understand the costs and requirements and let them do the work for you, it might sound like it will cost, but that little extra expense can save you a fortune should something arise you werent prepared for. Also this way all of your paperwork should be correct, one item missed out on some of the forms can mean your bike does not leave or will not leave the dock once it gets to your end.
Also insurance is a great idea, this is an extreme photo but this kind of stuff does happen and not just to ship plowing through typhoons.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
