Yep, Ford demonstrated to Ferrari exactly what a truly enormous budget can achieve. Both then and probably now too. Does anyone notice that Ford's greatest claim to fame these days is copying and modernising the one truly great race car they ever made to "better" the latest bargain basement Ferrari? Jeez, a 360 is a nice car, but it's hardly the pinnacle of Ferrari.

And how did Clarkson's write up of the new F430 go? Didn't he wish he'd held out and bought one of them instead?

A mate (single, high income, no kids) was gonna buy one of the NZ GT40 kits a year or two back. But he dicked around and never got around to buying it, and then they changed the specs and doubled the price or something so it just never happened. Which was a shame, cos with him being based overseas, and his Lotus 7 replica taking up floorspace at his parent's place, I was picturing a free GT40 replica in my garage for a while there... firing it up once a month, testing it's high speed stability (or lack of), cruising the beaches...

How many of you have heard of the GT60? The 'better' GT40. Built three, crushed two. The third was in NZ waiting on an engine (ex F5000) but was sold overseas.

Shit, I heard about that, not a good look for NZ. But hey, if anyone wants me to look after their supercars, Im more than willing.

Ford Rs200 maybe ?. Had silly power and was killing rally drivers. I think someone has one in NZ. The group B cars led to the current turbo restrictors on WRC cars , hence the older crosworth turbo escorts being the next ford WRC

Nah, this was an improved GT40. Only got as far as testing before being scrapped.

Did you see the note about a Group B rally car, would have qualified sixth on a formula 1 grid of the time , that's one serious cage !.

    .
Funny how Ford had to go to 427 V8's to beat the 4.4 litre Ferraris after the 302's were trounced.

Ettore Bugatti said that Bentley built the fastest lorries in the world.
In that vein, Ford build the fastest sales reps cars in the world.

Wasn't the whole GT40 issue caused by ego problems between Ford and Ferrari rather than anything else, with Ford pissed off that Enzo wouldn't sell??

Enzo Ferrari by that time was widely regarded as one of the best race engineers of the time so I guess Ford needed the extra cubes to make up for the better handling Ferraris.
