lols we can't help it if you live in that over populated, congested neck of the woods.
even the overseas motorcycle journos that come here to guage the roads cream the puds when they get to the south island, we've got the roads, the scenary, and sweet F/A traffic compared to the north.
the south is a bikers paradise

    Obviously a boy posted THAT!!

Just been through the Haast after stopping at Hawea, this has to be the best ride bar none - 80+km with 8 cars seen going the other way and 6 overtaken!!

Speeds of 140kmh or more reported and not a cop seen!!

Now to test the road up the coast to Woodstock.

lols the rimutaka's are only 28ks of road between the hutt & featherston D/L, ChCh has a couple of hundred kms of very very similar roads around Banks peninsula a good wee playground

then theres all the different bits n pieces all over the south & all with less than half the traffic & lols the north island doesn't know what proper alpine scenary looks like

Yes!!Agree, agree, agree! The only reason most people aren't down South in my opinion is that most of the better paid work for a lot of professions is in the north. eg my husband is a boilermaker and would have had to take a 1/3 or more pay cut if he moved to Dunedin where I was when we met. Which is fine by me as everyone can stay right where they are in the North Island and I'll head back down South after spending quality time with my Nana (which is a vitally important mission as we all know.)

Having said that why restrict yourself to just one beautiful place? Travel around every few months and see it all.
