dude! look at my title: DUCATILOVER! i naver said i dont like 90* engines, infact i love them, and is it just me or are alot of ducatis using 90* vtwins? i just dont like the general way a 45* vtwin sounds and delivers its power, 52 [or 52.5] on the other hand floats my boat very well.but i still want to ride a buell

I've been riding 1200 sporties for about 5 years now and just bought me a 2002 X1 Lightning with 6000ks on the clock, it's got the vance and haines exhaust and the fuel injections been tuned and is putting out 110hp. I've only ridin it for 300ks now but am already in love. awesome reponse on the throttle, good for skinny light fellas like myself, alot lighter and easier to manouver than my old sporster. The only problem i've found is i may need to save for a few tickets as it picks up sppeed so quick and smoothly, you dont even know till you look at the speedo. Also in 5th at 110ks your only floating between 2-3thou revs. smooth and fast. love it.
just another note...........if all your riding is gonna be around town, dont bother cause you will just labour the poor thing on low revs, or end up attracting to much attention than you want.........best suited for open road with long straights and twisty corners.
Not really my cup of tea, I like the Italian twin noises better, whether it be 60 or 90 degree twins.
However, I did look at Buells when looking for a big twin but the Guzzi's style just won me over.

Jeez! this thread was started a year ago and I had just done 78,000kms... well I am now up to 96,000 and she had a top-end rebuild at 90 plus the shock has shit itself bigtime... not to worry cos I know a guy who can rebuild it for a fraction of the price of a new one...
Gotta say something here that is NOT in Buells favour... my bike is a '99 model and the shock is now obselete, along with the race kit and the factory 'breadbox-aircleaner' kit.
I have heard Firebolt and XB owners also grumbling about obsolete parts...
What do ya do? well there are after market parts available but generally speaking they are more expensive than the original.
For example: my original shock $1000, replacement 'works performance' $1500; original race tuned ECM $400 (approx), power commander $700; factory breadbox replacement $450, screaming eagle kit $600+
These figures are approximate but ya get the picture?

awesome handling bike.
couldn't ride the R model very far without getting sore all over though.
prefer the S model
pity about that air cooled old tech motor though, imagine what Eric Buell could do with a real motor like an Aprilia, KTM V twin, Ducati, hell; even a Honda!
