    Immigration

    Hi,

As my first post in the n00b section proclaimed, I am currently seeking to move to your beautiful country. The main reason is Steinlager, but that's not how I justified the idea to my family!

My question is, does anyone have any experience with a company called http://www.newjobz.co.nz/

They charge for consultancy and claim to be able to get me an interview/job before my arrival. I am interested to know if these are a respectable organisation as $300 could buy me a new helmet!

    Cheers

    Mike

Our families only experience with job agencies are that they're a crock of shit.

Nice and friendly like, but generally they are just trying to get you a job, any job, so when you turn up it's usually a piece of shit.

Takes ages here to get a job, in relation to UK anyways... have to go through about 15 different interviews / tests, then they apply for references, then they seem to flip a coin to see if you get the job

Steinlager?? You're in for a pleasant surprise then. While it may be New Zealand's only "international" beer brand, Steinlager is crap compared with many other New Zealand beers.

Hey mike, I would ask if you get your money back if you don't get an interview and also make sure the interview is for the job YOU are looking for.
Most recruitment agencies will start the process for free inc the video interviewing but might not offer you a job untill you land as there could be immigration delays etc. I would be wary of an agency that can GUARANTEE you an interview.

I've never heard that candidates would pay agencies to look for jobs, especially in such a tight job market like NZ. Don't they get 10% of your gross income as a fee from future employers?

Hi Mike, and welcome to KB!

If you decide to use Newjobz then please DO NOT mention your thirst for Steinlager lol! I havn't had any experience with this crowd but reading their website i get the impression they are catering for those foreigners who 'need' help finding employment over here, so in that respect $300 is probably worth it for those individuals. Whether you fit into that category or not I don't know, but if you have the wherewithal and confidence to scout around and find work for yourself, like so many immigrants do, then you don't need to pay anything, just means it will take you more time and effort to do the ground work yourself! Hey you could even try throwing your credentials/qualifications on here to generate some leads??

All the best with the move over.

Use the money for a new lid mate. My family had a turn with these guys. Nothing but a waste of money IMO. Took dad 7 months for them to try and find him a job. In the end his job he got was great and helped me get to what Im doing today.

Good luck with the move over.

there should be plenty of IT work over here. there's plenty of free help on here. buy a new lid.

and steinlager is ok for making beer bread and chicken, and marinating steak, but there's plenty more boutique beers that are much yummier. and there's always Waikato.

don't, whatever you do, ever, buy montieths summer ale. you have been warned.

Or Rheineck. Why do Aucklanders like this stuff, or is it the "milky latte" of beer?

Nah they're all crap except Speights or Monteiths. Anything from Lion gives me a stinking headache before I get to the third drink. DB I can handle if I really have to. As for Steinlager I get embarrassed whenever I see one of those "they're drinking our beer here" ads. Only because it has to be dumped on other countries beacuse its so shit. True about the Summer Ale though kinda like one of those lolly drinks.

I've had no dealings and have never heard anything about them in the Wellington IT (At least in my NZ role for the last 10 years) . Maybe they have a good network with recruiters, but you really need to target IT recruitment companies first.

If you can , it's worth getting a NZ working visa sorted out before you start applying for jobs , that way your CV won't be put on the bottom of the pile .

Check out www.yellowpages.co.nz , put in recruitment and Wellington and follow the link.

Try the following quick links as well

http://www.duncanryan.co.nz/ (Used these guys before to get staff)
    http://www.recruit.co.nz
    http://www.iconrec.co.nz/
    www.netcheck.co.nz

I'd argue with Wesel that the UK job IT contracting is the same .
Then when you get work , they want you to slow down and do shorter days .
