Motor and trans is all good. She was due for some heads-off work and new cam/carb/performance stuff so thats now going to happen while the rest is being repaired. Wally (from Wally's HD's in Tokoroa), the only Harley guy I'll let near mine!, is sending the bike off to the frame straighteners in Cambridge soon to check and do any straightening.

The bike is going to need new tank, front fender, master cylinder, cables, most of the pretty covers and a fair bit of new chrome. The 2 mth old V & H bigshot staggereds pipes were munted so will be replaced, new 14" apes, fork lowers, triple tree..and the list goes on - so far about $15k including airbrush work.

I was insured, so was she.

Incidentally, even though the cops have 2 eye witnesses (including an ex woman bike cop) this woman is actually pleading not guilty to the charge of careless use causing injury. I can't wait to get up in front of the court and show em the pics of the bike and my leg, and will also provide the judge with a list of my costs! (approaching $30k including loss of income, but not including the bike which as I said was insured).

I'll give her @#$%$@##@%$ not guilty!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 3 months the leg brace is off and the bandages too. There's 3 titanium rods now permanently inserted in my right leg and I also had total knee reconstruction too, so yeah, the leg has had a hell of a time. I can just put a little weight on it using crutches....the plan is to be able to be ride the Harley by the time Wally has it ready in about 2 months.

    Thank christ for painkillers!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehehehe I'd had the morphine drip after a heart attack and quadruple heart bypass op 3 years ago and found that I do not react well to it. This time around I got them to get rid of the morphine setup after day 3 as I was already having halucinations!

For the last 3 mths its been panadol, tramadol and codeine phosphate around here ever 4 hours.

The pain is easing, can put a little weight on the leg and have started hanging out for a ride, now so its all good eh!

If anything, its your insurance company thats hoping that you're at fault, then at least they'll get your excess and be able increase your premiums.

Insurance companies operate a "knock for knock" system. They each pay for their own clients repairs regardless of who's fault, this saves money as it all balances out usually and they don;t have to keep sending cheques between each other. Having said that, they may not on motorbikes as there are some small time operators out there.

Remember, if you're not at fault, if your insurance company refuses to pay for anything you can retrieve it from the other party. Can be a pain though.

    Insurance issues

    Hi,

My Harley is insured with John Baker Insurance brokers and I believe they have reinsured it with Star (I think they are either State or owned by State).

The woman who hit me is insured with AMI.

An assessor on behalf of John Baker Insurance has verbally ok'd all repairs with the repair shop who have my bike, and they have also agreed to make a claim on my behalf for personal property damaged including Shoei helmet, $800 watch, cellphone etc.

They say they will get me to complete the claim form then forward it to AMI then follow it up with phone calls etc.

And heres me thinking I pay insurance premiums to make life easy!
