What made me suspicious about the Watson case was the prosecution saying that the water-taxi driver was mistaken about whether Watsons boat was a sloop or a ketch ( 1 mast or 2) yet he was certain about identifying Watson.
Everyone, except this jury, knows that eyewitness ID's are notoriously inaccurate. But you would expect a keen boatie to know the difference between yacht designs.
    It stinks of a fit-up.

The bit I love about some of the cries about police "fit up", is that nobody can explain why the law would go to great trouble put together a team to fabricate evidence and risk their careers (and possible prison time) to frame someone, and be happy to live with the thought that a murderer is walking free without a worry in the world.

End of minor rant - more of a ra

The pressure to get a conviction is very powerful, which explains the magical appearance of the cartidge case in the Crewe murders.

Lou the 1 mast 2 mast thing was a minor compared to the other shit that went on.... The taxi guy was there 1st suspect, lucky for him there was a more dodger person about that night.

Another website pointing out possible flaws in the case. A lot of theories about witnesses changing their minds, contamination of evidence etc.

Have you read the Karam book about the Bain case. Compare the evidence he says was presented in court with the actual evidence presented. Great for playing "spot the difference".

On another note, your grandad and the NZ "SS" were the same in all countries during the war. Can't have people rocking the boat in wartime. Bad for morale you know. I hope he wasn't involved in the infamous Sydney Ross/Captain Calder affair.
